GCP Data Engineer

Contract: 6 months (with strong potential for extension)

Location: Fully remote (Europe-based candidates only)

About the Role

We’re seeking a passionate and experienced Data Engineer / Data Product Engineer to join our growing data team on a freelance basis. In this role, you’ll take end-to-end ownership of designing, building, and optimizing high-quality data products that align with our target architecture and data mesh strategy.

You’ll collaborate closely with product owners and cross-functional teams to deliver secure, scalable, and high-performing data solutions that unlock business value and drive innovation.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and support new and existing data products end-to-end
• Ensure security, scalability, observability, and performance standards are met
• Partner with Product Owners and stakeholders to shape product vision and identify new opportunities
• Collaborate with domain teams on data mesh–related initiatives
• Proactively reduce technical debt and continuously improve architecture and delivery
• Stay up to date with the latest developments in data, analytics, and cloud technologies

About You

You’re someone who thrives on solving complex data challenges and working collaboratively in a distributed environment. You bring a mix of technical depth, creativity, and ownership to everything you do.

What You’ll Bring:

• 5+ years of hands-on experience as a Data Engineer or Software Engineer working with modern cloud data platforms (preferably Google Cloud Platform – GCP)
• Strong experience with DBT (Data Build Tool) for transformation and modeling
• Proficiency in Python and SQL (or similar query languages)
• Experience with data formats such as Avro and Parquet
• Solid understanding of data modeling techniques and design trade-offs
• Familiarity with data visualization tools
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, proactive mindset
• Fluent in English (written and spoken)
