We are looking for a FDIR Engineer to work at ESTEC’s premises in Noordwijk, Netherlands.
About the client and location
The European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) is the European Space Agency’s (ESA) base in Noordwijk, the Netherlands. As ESA’s largest test centre, it is responsible for the majority of space technology and spacecraft development through varying phases of production.
💼 Tasks and activities
The scope of work will include:
- Taking part in the inclusion and traceability of FDIR aspects across all system elements and throughout all project lifecycle phases.
- Supporting ESA project teams in the preparation, review, and consolidation of FDIR documentation for all mission phases, ensuring consistency with internal processes and engineering standards.
- Contributing to the definition and refinement of the FDIR concept in alignment with the overall system design and engineering constraints within projects.
- Assisting in applying a rigorous and traceable engineering process for demonstrating the adequacy and fitness-for-purpose of FDIR solutions within projects.
- Supporting the collection, organisation, verification, and dissemination of FDIR-related information within the project team and to ensure consistency across design artefacts.
- Providing technical support to the project team in internal discussions regarding the identification of residual risks and the evaluation of FDIR strategies.
- Contributing to FDIR-related activities within the Concurrent Design Facility (CDF), including the preparation of technical inputs and participation in internal sessions.
- Aiding in the development, review, and maintenance of FDIR-related internal standards, guidelines, and best practices.
- Supporting the maintenance and regular update of the ESA FDIR Handbook, including the collection, documentation, and integration of lessons learned and current engineering practices to promote reuse and continuous improvement.
- Assisting with internal R&D activities focused on advancing FDIR methodologies, tools, and techniques, including the exploration and integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital twin technologies.
🔍 Skills and experience
The following skills and experience are mandatory:
- University Degree or equivalent in engineering, physics or mathematics, or in a relevant field.
- Demonstrated System Engineering experience in phase C/D including verification and validation.
- System Engineering experience in software and FDIR.
- Experience with the use of DOORs.
- Desire to work both autonomously and as part of a team, in an international multicultural environment.
- Solution oriented mindset, with a customer focused communication skill.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
