Job Title: Principal Network Automation Engineer

Location: Westlake, TX relocation acceptable

Duration: 6+ Months

Must Have Skills

  • Principal-level Network Automation Engineering experience
  • Strong Python & Ansible automation skills
  • Network API automation (REST, NETCONF, RESTCONF, gNMI)
  • CI/CD pipeline development (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, etc.)
  • Extensive experience automating across routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers
  • Strong understanding of routing & switching, ACLs, VLANs, VRFs, BGP/OSPF
  • Database querying for network inventory, logs, and automation data
  • Ability to test network UI, APIs, and device configurations
  • Excellent communication and leadership as sole automation engineer supporting a Scrum team

Description

We are seeking for a Network Automation Engineer who is passionate about modern automation frameworks, scalable network design, and infrastructure-as-code practices. You will work with teams supporting critical network platforms, automating processes across configuration, provisioning, compliance, testing, and deployment.

You will apply your expertise in network engineering, automation, DevOps, and cloud connectivity to design, build, and maintain automation solutions that ensure the Fidelity network is reliable, secure, and scalable. As a principal engineer, you will set engineering standards, guide automation strategy, and be a cross-team technical leader.

The Expertise And Skills You Bring

  • 8+ years of experience with Bachelor's or 6+ years with Master's in CS, IT, Network Engineering, or related field
  • Designing and implementing automated frameworks for network provisioning, configuration, and API validation
  • Strong automation skills:
    • Python, Ansible, Jinja2
    • Network Testing (pyATS/Genie, Nornir, custom Python frameworks)
    • API automation (REST/NETCONF/RESTCONF/gNMI)
  • Experience with DevOps and pipelines:
    • Jenkins Core, GitHub Actions, CI/CD orchestration
    • Version control (GitHub, Bitbucket, Sourcetree)
  • Preferred AWS cloud networking experience (VPCs, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, Cloud WAN)
  • Strong background in:
    • Network telemetry, monitoring (Datadog, Splunk)
    • Chaos/Resilience testing for network services
    • Node.js / Java / JavaScript for automation tooling (nice to have)
  • 6+ years architecting automation platforms for large-scale network environments
  • Deployment automation and orchestration (IaC, controller-based automation, SDN workflows)
  • Expertise in:
    • Branching strategies
    • Merges & build pipelines
    • Version management for templates, configs, and playbooks
  • Promote best practices in network design, testability, security, and change validation
  • Build and maintain tests across:
    • Configuration checks
    • Integration tests
    • Performance and failover scenarios
    • Interoperability tests across multi-vendor networks
  • Strong SQL skills for querying network inventory and seeding automation data
  • AWS networking experience is a strong plus
