About The Role
We are seeking a motivated DevOps / Site Reliability Platform Engineer specializing in Kubevirt and Kubernetes to join our team. This role is pivotal in designing, implementing, and maintaining infrastructure solutions such as RedHat OpenShift and RedHat OpenShift Virtualization, supporting various application flavors across geographically distributed teams. The ideal candidate will focus on virtualization and container strategies, enhancing ecosystem capabilities to meet Ford's rapidly increasing data and compute requirements. This position offers a unique opportunity to drive innovation by shaping new solutions and improving developer experiences within our Kubevirt/Kubernetes platforms, ultimately reducing operational toil and complexity. As part of this role, you will work closely with cross-functional teams to support application deployment, infrastructure automation, and platform enhancements, contributing to Ford’s digital transformation initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related technical field
- 3+ years of strong Linux experience across multiple platforms (RHEL, Ubuntu, SUSE)
- 1+ years of experience with Kubevirt and Kubernetes
- 1+ years of virtualization and container technologies experience
- In-depth knowledge of Cloud-based PaaS and IaaS, with preferred experience in GCP and Azure
- 2+ years of experience with GIT and CI/CD pipelines using Tekton, Argo, GitHub Actions, and/or Jenkins
- Experience with Prometheus and Grafana monitoring tools
- Proficiency in Kustomize and Helm for deployment management
- Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language such as Go, Python, or Bourne Shell
- Understanding of RESTful API concepts and JSON data formats
- Working knowledge of application development architectures and web deployment methodologies
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain OpenShift Virtualization Operators and related components
- Manage OpenShift Virtualization namespaces, permissions, and access controls
- Develop automation scripts and tools for provisioning, Day2 operations, decommissioning, and migration activities
- Collaborate with team members to establish and enforce code standards and technical best practices
- Participate in code reviews, technical design sessions, and architecture discussions
- Upgrade and maintain OpenShift Virtualization-specific operators to ensure platform stability and performance
- Monitor system health and performance using Prometheus and Grafana, implementing improvements as needed
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to support deployment and operational activities across global remote locations
- Contribute to documentation such as run books, disaster recovery plans, and platform architecture diagrams
- Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement within infrastructure management
