Overview
We are seeking an experienced Network Engineer to support overnight patching and maintenance activities across multiple client environments. This role focuses on applying updates to routers, switches, and related network infrastructure during non-business hours to minimize impact on operations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable working independently, and experienced in performing maintenance within diverse enterprise networks.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled patching and software updates on routers, switches, and other network appliances
- Manage overnight maintenance windows across multiple client networks
- Conduct post-patch verification, connectivity tests, and health checks
- Troubleshoot basic issues and escalate complex problems when necessary
- Work within ITSM platforms to log, document, and track maintenance tasks
- Follow change management procedures and adhere to client security protocols
- Communicate status updates to daytime engineering and leadership teams
- Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities and configurations
Required Skills & Experience
- 2–5+ years of experience in networking or network operations
- Hands-on experience with one or more of the following:
- Cisco IOS / IOS-XE
- Cisco Catalyst or Nexus switches
- Juniper, Aruba, Palo Alto (bonus)
- Familiarity with patching, upgrading firmware, and applying security updates
- Strong understanding of routing/switching fundamentals (BGP, OSPF, VLANs, STP, SNMP, etc.)
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision during overnight hours
- Experience supporting enterprise or managed services environments (preferred)
- Comfortable working across multiple customer infrastructures
- Strong documentation and communication skills
Nice to Have
- CCNA, CCNP, JNCIA, or similar certification
- Experience with NMS/monitoring platforms (SolarWinds, PRTG, LogicMonitor, etc.)
- Prior experience in MSP, VAR, or consulting environments
- Familiarity with ITSM tools like ServiceNow, Jira, or ConnectWise
