Founding Quantitative Engineer (Energy Trading Systems)

We are establishing a new algorithmic power-trading operation in Denmark. We are hiring a Founding Quantitative Engineer who will be responsible for building our entire trading platform from the ground up. There is no existing software, no existing infrastructure, and no existing models.


The founding engineer we are looking for will have deep, practical experience in energy trading systems and the machine-learning models that power them. We are not looking for generalists. We need someone who has already built or maintained production-grade systems used in day-ahead, intraday, or real-time power trading.


This is a role for an experienced specialist who understands how modern energy-trading platforms work end-to-end and can build an operational MVP with minimal guidance. The ideal candidate can hit the ground running, avoid common pitfalls, and deliver correct, reliable systems from day one.

Relocation to Denmark is required.


Responsibilities

· Build the first full version of our power-trading platform, including data ingestion, forecasting models, execution logic, and monitoring.

· Implement pipelines for weather data, grid data, and historical market data used in European power trading.

· Develop forecasting models specifically suited for power markets, including short-term load, generation, price, and imbalance forecasting.

· Implement strategy backtesting and simulation tools aligned with energy-market mechanics.

· Build execution logic for day-ahead, intraday, and real-time markets with robust risk and operational controls.

· Prepare the MVP for live testing and evaluate strategy performance under real market conditions.

· If the MVP succeeds, help recruit and onboard additional engineers and define long-term system architecture.


Minimum Requirements

· Proven experience building or maintaining energy-trading systems or forecasting platforms used in operational power trading.

· Deep understanding of market structures such as day-ahead, intraday, balancing, liquidity constraints, and cross-border flows.

· Strong experience with energy-market forecasting models (load, generation, solar, wind, or price).

· Hands-on proficiency in Python and C++ for high-performance components.

· Experience with time-series modeling, feature engineering for energy markets, and production ML deployment.

· Experience with cloud environments and scalable infrastructure.

· Ability to independently design and deliver reliable, correct systems with minimal iteration.

· Willingness to relocate to Denmark.

 

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience building greenfield trading systems or research platforms in the energy domain.

· Experience with European power markets (Nordics, EPEX, GB, etc.).

· Experience with large datasets used in energy trading such as NWP, SCADA, telemetry, and market microdata.

· Experience translating forecasting outputs into executable trading decisions.

· Background that supports future transition into technical leadership.
