Job Overview

The Informatics Team Lead plays a pivotal role within the Digital Data &

Technology (DDaT) Operations team, directly supporting the Information Manager to enhance and develop information services across the Trust and the wider health and care system.

This role involves leading a team of Senior Information Analysts and Data

Analysts, ensuring that high-quality business intelligence and data analytics drive strategic decision-making and operational excellence.

The post holder will ensure that the team delivers timely, accurate, and

actionable insights to support the Trust's vision and objectives. They will

work collaboratively with clinical and operational teams to ensure that

information services align with the Trust's Digital Data & Technology

(DDaT) target operating model and support continuous improvement.

Main duties of the job

  • Oversee the delivery of business intelligence and analytical services that support strategic decision-making across the Trust in key areas such as Statistics and Planning, Performance and Quality, Finance and Income Reporting, and Operational Efficiency.
  • Ensure the team produces accurate and insightful reports, dashboards, and data analyses using advanced BI tools (e.g., SQL, Power BI, Qlik Sense, R) to inform clinical and operational decision-making.
  • Guide the team in applying advanced technical expertise in data manipulation, statistical analysis, and forecasting to provide actionable insights.
  • Take a proactive approach to identifying patterns, trends, and signals in data sets, translating them into meaningful information that supports Trust initiatives and operational needs.
  • Work closely with clinical and operational teams to understand their data and information needs, ensuring that the analytics provided are relevant, timely, and actionable.
  • Support the Information Manager in engaging with senior stakeholders across the Trust to ensure that the information services provided meet organizational needs and strategic objectives.
  • Ensure that the team communicates complex data insights clearly and effectively to a variety of stakeholders, including those with varying levels of data literacy.
  • Drive continuous improvement within the team by identifying and implementing best practices in data analysis, reporting, and business intelligence.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Information Manager to ensure that the team contributes effectively to integrated performance reports, and that these reports are aligned with the Trust's strategic priorities.
  • Support the Information Manager in developing and refining policies, procedures, and guidelines related to information services, ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards such as GDPR.
  • Support the Information Manager in leading transformation programmes within the Trust, ensuring that the information team is equipped to support and sustain these initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Trust Improvement Programme Board and other DDaT teams to drive successful technology-based change management and ensure that data services are aligned with broader digital transformation efforts.
  • Ensure that all information services adhere to the Trust's governance frameworks, including those related to data security, system access, and the ethical use of information.
  • Assist the Information Manager in ensuring that the team's activities are governed by DDaT oversight, and that they contribute to the Trust's digital governance and performance management structures.
  • Assist the Information Manager in managing the budget for the information team, ensuring that resources are used efficiently and deliver value for money.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and income generation through effective data management and business intelligence activities.
  • Maintain extensive knowledge of systems, methodologies, techniques and statistical methods for undertaking complex analysis of a variety of complex and conflicting data.
  • Present complex analysis to a variety of internal and external staff where there are barriers to understanding or the information is contentious. Clearly communicate complex concepts and methods and use guiding and persuading techniques to ensure appropriate outcomes.
  • Develop strategic support material for use at board level, presenting to senior staff as required.
  • Monitor the consistency of data reporting throughout the Trust ensuring that internal and external reports are both accurate and of the requisite standard.
  • Work with internal management and external agencies to ensure information systems meet Trust' local and national requirements.
  • Leading Information expert for strategic planning for commissioning/service delivery and corporate reporting
  • To lead the delivery and management of internal intelligence applications, relative to operational efficiency to ensure corporate reporting, business intelligence, clinical coding, data quality assurance and other relevant information requirements are delivered
  • Ensure timely production and submission of operational efficiency data and other activity reports
  • Ensuring downloading of datasets to support Trust improvement projects related to occupation efficiency e.g. Waiting List, Diagnostics, Cancer, Maternity
  • Ensure the quality of external and internal activity and internal reports through regular operational efficiency data reconciliations
  • Ensuring information management of projects for waiting list improvement, maternity incentive scheme etc
  • To have in-depth knowledge of national policy relating to information services, operational efficiency e.g. eRS, RTT, Waiting Lists, Cancer, Diagnostics, Maternity etc, corporate performance and other related frameworks. Interpret any changes determine and advise in necessary action and implement changes throughout Trust systems.
  • Develop the Trust adherence to information governance principles ensuring procedures, policies and working practices are in place to meet national guidelines, performance indicators and standards.
  • Establish and manage systems of information sharing between stakeholders including liaison with other Trusts ensuring that all appropriate guidelines are adhered to in the process.
  • Audit all activity related administration taking place within the Trust to ensure maximum compliance with the NHS Data Dictionary, local and national contracts and recommend changes to policies and procedures where necessary.
  • Responsible and accountable for the delivery of activity and performance monitoring information that enables the Trust to review and track performance against agreed targets at both local and national level.
  • Establish the provision of accurate, timely and well presented statistical and analytical reports to support Trust Board reporting criteria.
  • Advise on the systematic review, monitoring and constant improvement of the data repository / warehouse by the development and implementation of a strategy to meet internal and external requirements related to the above subject areas
  • Responsible for the development of robust reporting systems for the Trust that are responsive to the changing needs of the organisation, and keep pace with technology changes, changes in national policy and national reporting policy.
  • To deputise for the Head of Information as required and to provide them with a brief on salient points.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of Operational Efficiency data reporting in line with the Trust's strategy.
  • To support the Information Manager in the development and implementation of the Trust's internal and external reporting in line with the Trust strategy.

Education, Qualification and Training

Essential criteria

  • Educated to Master's level or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in an informatics/health care data function.
  • Commitment and willingness to undertake on-going training and development.

Desirable criteria

  • Degree in a relevant field (e.g., Data Science, Information Management, Business Analytics)
  • Postgraduate qualification in a related discipline

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Comprehensive experience of information management, including informatics, BI, analysis, manipulating large data sets
  • High level of Proficiency in BI Tools; SQL, Power BI, Qliksense, R and advanced data techniques
  • Significant experience in leading a team within an information or data analytics environment
  • Proven Ability to translate business requirements into delivered solutions
  • Proven experience of applying methods and techniques for reporting progress and compliance against an agreed plan and business objectives to a range of senior managers
  • Demonstrable ability to identify, plan and coordinate a set of related actions within a programme of business change and manage complex and multiple interdependencies in support of specific business strategies within a clinical IT environment to the successful achievement of planned business benefits
  • Demonstrable experience of involvement in the creation and presentation of business cases
