Role Overview
We're seeking a Founding Engineer (DevOps / MLOps + Backend) to join our early-stage, high-impact startup. This is a hands-on role, ideal for someone who thrives in scaling cloud-native infrastructure, building backend microservices, and deploying secure, scalable AI applications on AWS.
You'll collaborate closely with our CTO and full-stack engineer to define and implement robust infrastructure, DevOps pipelines, MLOps workflows, and scalable backend services while also interacting with the CEO and product and design partners. You will play a foundational role in architecting the infrastructure backbone of a modern SaaS platform in production.
Key Responsibilities
● Platform Engineering & Cloud Infrastructure
○ Design, implement, and manage infrastructure on AWS, including use of Amazon Bedrock to host and scale LLM applications.
○ Architect and manage containerized services using Docker and Kubernetes.
○ Develop scalable CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code.
○ Ensure infrastructure is secure, cost-effective, and observable.
● Backend & API Development
○ Contribute to backend services and API development using Python (Node.js / Java optional).
○ Build and maintain RESTful and gRPC APIs aligned with the microservices architecture.
○ Integrate robust authentication and access control frameworks.
● Data Systems & MLOps
○ Work with databases including PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, and VectorDBs for embedding and semantic search use cases.
○ Collaborate on deploying, monitoring, and scaling ML/LLM models using MLOps best practices.
○ Help define and support governance and metadata standards for data lineage and model lifecycle.
● Observability & Security
○ Set up telemetry, logging, and monitoring using tools such as Logfire, Sentry, and CloudWatch.
○ Implement best practices for infrastructure security, secrets management, and role-based access.
What We’re Looking ForTechnical Skills
● Strong experience in cloud infrastructure (AWS essential; GCP/Azure a plus).
● Deep understanding of microservices architecture and cloud-native app development.
● Hands-on with containerization: Docker and Kubernetes (self-managed or AWS EKS).
● Experience in setting up CI/CD and GitOps workflows.
● Strong backend coding skills in Python (Node.js or Java optional).
● Solid understanding of distributed systems, concurrency, and API design.
● Familiarity with security best practices: IAM, OIDC/SAML (Auth0, Cognito), HTTPS, VPCs, Secrets management.
● Experience in observability tooling (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, ELK, Micrometer, etc.).
● Working knowledge of data engineering concepts: data modeling, metadata standards, data warehousing, data privacy, and governance frameworks.
Nice to Have
● Experience in real-time messaging systems (Kafka, Spark Streaming, etc.).
● Familiarity with deploying and managing ML pipelines.
● Exposure to SaaS platforms for B2B/B2G applications.
● Prior experience in early-stage startups or fast-paced R&D environments.
