Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator (DBA) with deep expertise in DB2 LUW and cloud database platforms (AWS RDS, DynamoDB, DocumentDB, MongoDB, etc.) to support enterprise-scale applications in a hybrid data ecosystem.
This role requires a mix of hands-on technical leadership, performance optimization, and collaborative supportacross multiple environments. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver who excels in tuning, automation, and migration initiatives involving both on-prem and cloud databases.
Key Responsibilities
- Database Design & Implementation: Design, develop, and implement DB2 LUW and cloud database solutions in collaboration with development teams.
- Administration & Maintenance: Install, configure, and upgrade DB2 LUW databases and related software. Maintain database availability, integrity, and performance.
- Performance Tuning: Analyze and optimize queries, indexing, and partitioning strategies. Resolve bottlenecks and optimize overall performance.
- Security & Compliance: Implement robust access controls, manage roles, and ensure compliance with governance and security standards.
- Backup & Recovery: Develop and maintain database backup, replication, and disaster recovery strategies to ensure high availability.
- Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Monitor database metrics and diagnose issues using advanced tools and performance utilities.
- Automation & Scripting: Create automation scripts using shell scripting, Python, or Perl for monitoring, maintenance, and deployment.
- Capacity Planning: Forecast storage and compute needs, ensuring scalability and stability across environments.
- Collaboration: Partner with developers, system administrators, and business analysts to design and implement efficient data solutions.
- Cloud Migration: Support and execute the migration of on-prem databases to AWS cloud environments.
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelorβs degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- 10+ years of experience as a DB2 LUW DBA in enterprise environments.
- Strong knowledge of DB2 LUW architecture, utilities, HADR, TSA, and QREP.
- 5+ years of experience with cloud database platforms (AWS RDS PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, DocumentDB, MongoDB, Neo4j, Neptune, etc.).
- Expertise in SQL tuning and query optimization.
- Proficiency in Linux/Unix administration and shell scripting.
- Experience with monitoring tools for performance and alert management.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and analytical skills.
- Proven ability to mentor junior DBAs and lead by example.
Desired / Preferred Skills & Experience
- Knowledge of Project Management principles and Agile methodologies.
- Experience working on large-scale enterprise systems.
- 3+ years of Big 4 consulting experience (preferred).
- Familiarity with DevOps practices for database automation and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with cloud migration and hybrid database strategies.
- Stable work history in large enterprise organizations.
