About the Role
Lockheed Martin is hiring an AI/ML Forward Deployed Engineer to serve as a technical liaison between customers and the AI consulting team within the Lockheed Martin Artificial Intelligence Center (LAIC). You will design, build, deploy, and maintain machine learning solutions directly inside customer environments, working on high-impact projects that combine technical depth with strong business understanding.
This role suits an experienced AI/ML engineer who enjoys ownership, fast-paced delivery, and working at the intersection of AI and real-world operational problems.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Build, test, and deploy end-to-end ML models, pipelines, and API services in customer production environments.
- Monitor and optimize deployed solutions to meet performance SLAs and business KPIs.
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for assigned business functions.
- Translate business requirements into clear technical designs and explain model behavior to non-technical audiences.
- Work closely with data engineers, product managers, and business leaders to embed ML solutions into existing workflows.
- Conduct rapid assessments for new opportunities and pivot quickly as priorities evolve.
Who You Are
- Strong programming skills in Python and SQL.
- Experience with machine learning frameworks and tooling.
- Excellent communication skills and stakeholder engagement experience.
- Ability to work independently within a remote team.
- Comfortable operating in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
- Able to collaborate cross-functionally with engineering and business teams.
- Strong understanding of ML concepts and ability to translate technical designs into business outcomes.
Basic Qualifications
- Python experience with libraries such as pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorch, or TensorFlow.
- Experience training, evaluating, and tuning ML models.
- Experience with Git, unit testing, CI/CD basics, and Docker.
- Knowledge of data science or data engineering fundamentals.
- 2 to 5 years of professional experience building or deploying AI/ML solutions.
Desired Skills
- Domain experience in areas such as finance, supply chain, or marketing is beneficial.
- Experience with MLOps tools like Kubeflow, MLflow, or Airflow.
- Familiarity with big data platforms such as Spark, Snowflake, or BigQuery.
- Exposure to explainable AI tools such as SHAP or LIME.
- Client-facing or embedded engineering experience.
- Experience in regulated industries.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field.
- Strong SQL querying and data wrangling skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication and stakeholder management.

Compensation and Benefits
Salary ranges vary by location:
- Major metro areas in CA, MA, NY: 125,100 to 216,890 USD
- Other listed states including CO, HI, IL, MD, MN, NJ, VT, WA, DC: 108,800 to 191,820 USD
- Final salary depends on experience, skills, location, and business factors.

- This position is incentive plan eligible.
