We are seeking a highly experienced and technically driven Principal Mobile Engineer to lead the vision and architecture of a major mobile platform across iOS and Android. In this role, you will set the long-term technical strategy, ensure platform performance and stability, and provide hands-on leadership to a team of senior engineers. Accountabilities
- Define and own the long-term technical vision and architecture for the mobile platform, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and high performance.
- Establish and enforce best practices for mobile development, including performance optimization, crash reduction, and stability management.
- Lead feature parity and ongoing maintenance across platforms, ensuring consistent and high-quality delivery.
- Enhance developer experience by optimizing build, test, and release cycles in collaboration with platform engineering teams.
- Mentor senior and staff engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and technical guidance.
- Drive innovation by evaluating new technologies, libraries, patterns, and React Native architectures to maintain a modern, efficient platform.
- Serve as the primary technical authority and liaison, communicating complex concepts effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, with a strong focus on mobile development and scaling large-scale applications.
- Expert knowledge of React Native, Expo, and associated mobile ecosystems.
- Deep understanding of native iOS (Swift/Objective-C) and Android (Kotlin/Java) platforms, including build tools, store submissions, and bridging native modules.
- Proven experience in mobile performance optimization, including startup time, bundle size, memory usage, and perceived performance.
- Mastery of mobile architecture, including state management, navigation, event-driven architecture, and reusable component design.
- Strong functional programming knowledge and principles.
- Operational excellence with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and developer experience improvements.
- Familiarity with mobile observability, crash reporting, and stability management tools (e.g., Datadog, Sentry, Bugsnag).
- Proven leadership experience mentoring senior engineers, influencing technical roadmaps, and making high-stakes architectural decisions.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical topics to a wide range of stakeholders.
- Bachelorβs degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
