Job Description
Are you highly motivated with a background in computer science, physical science or engineering? Would you like to be part of an exciting and internationally leading atmospheric science facility? Do you want to develop software tools & services to support the deployment of the Atmospheric Measurement and Observation Facility (AMOF)?Main Duties and Responsibilities
The National Centre for Atmospheric Science (NCAS) is seeking a software engineer to design, implement, and automate the end-to-end data processing pipeline for AMOF’s weather and cloud radars. You will also develop software services and applications that enable users to visualise and interact with real-time and archived radar observations.
You will join the Remote Sensing Group at NCAS-Leeds and work alongside the instrument and research scientists, staff within the IT team and colleagues at the Centre for Environmental Data Analysis (CEDA, based in Harwell).
What does the role entail?
As NCAS Software Engineer, your main duties will include:
- Formalising and automating the data processing chain from AMOF’s suite of weather and cloud radars - storage, transfer, monitoring and calibration, archiving, quicklooks, value-added products
- Producing an operational dashboard for data management
- Introducing version control for all scripts and processes
- Fully documenting software services and applications developed
- Ensuring final QC’d datasets are archived to the Centre for Environmental Data Analysis (CEDA)
- Develop a new data portal or webpage to improve access to, and visualisation of, archived and real-time data streams
- Develop the Remote Sensing Group microsite to support user engagement
