Job Description
Team Lead: Network Engineer – Data Center / Backbone Infrastructure
Location: Remote from anywhere in the EU
Salary: Up to €200K based on seniority
Our client operates a large scale and technically demanding network environment that includes modern data center fabrics and a globally distributed backbone. Their infrastructure is built on NVIDIA and Arista switching hardware, with substantial investment in InfiniBand for HPC clusters. The backbone interconnects multiple data centers and PoPs using Juniper routers and, more recently, Cisco platforms.
Engineers joining this environment work with real scale, multi-vendor complexity, and high availability requirements. The role is suited for someone who wants to remain hands on while guiding a senior team and shaping the direction of the network architecture.
Team and responsibilities:
You will lead a team of 7 Senior Network Engineers distributed across Europe. The position requires a player coach approach, combining technical ownership with people and strategic leadership. The work will be divided into three core areas:
• Hands on engineering where you take ownership of the environment and contribute directly to design, troubleshooting, and improvements
• People management including one on ones, mentoring, workload planning, and participation in hiring
• Technical leadership where you align with internal teams and stakeholders, contribute to large customer designs, and shape the medium term roadmap for both data center and backbone environments
Required skills:
Lead experience: Minimum one year of experience as a tech lead or team lead.
Expertise in one of the following areas:
Data Center Networking: Strong experience designing and deploying high performance data center networks at scale. Hands on knowledge of Arista or NVIDIA Mellanox switching, VXLAN EVPN, and BGP or OSPF in multi terabit or high density environments.
Backbone and External Routing: Deep experience operating and designing large scale IP or MPLS backbones. Strong knowledge of BGP, MPLS, traffic engineering, and high availability architectures on Juniper or Cisco routers.
