Director of Engineering - Video Game Studio/Publisher

Location: Austin, TX (on-site- must be local or willing to relocate)
Salary: $180,000-$230,000 DOE + Annual Bonuses + Comprehensive Benefits

What You'll Be Doing

Reporting directly to the VP of Operations, you will spearhead the engineering team, driving growth and cultivating talent while maintaining hands-on involvement in game development. This role combines strategic leadership with technical execution. Key responsibilities include:

  • Defining and executing technical strategy and operational roadmap in alignment with company goals
  • Leading a team of 20 engineers, providing mentorship and fostering a culture of high performance
  • Collaborating cross-functionally with executives and other departments to ensure seamless integration of engineering efforts
  • Architecting and developing robust, feature-rich systems from inception to implementation
  • Producing clear documentation for designers and engineers
  • Championing engineering best practices and continuous improvement
  • Troubleshooting complex systems and features as needed
What You Need
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field
  • 15+ years of software development experience
  • 5-10+ years in engineering leadership roles
  • 5+ years in the video game industry
  • Proven track record of delivering multiple titles across modern gaming platforms (PC, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch)
  • Expertise in C++ development and proficiency in scripting languages (Blueprint, LUA, C#, Python, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of Unreal Engine and version control systems
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies
