Job Summary

Crescent Constructors, Inc., a rapidly growing $80 million general contractor specializing in water, wastewater, and heavy civil infrastructure projects, is seeking an experienced Corporate Accounting Manager (Area Accounting Manager) to oversee all day-to-day accounting operations. This position is based onsite and does not offer remote or hybrid work options.


This individual will be responsible for managing all core accounting functions — including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, job cost reporting, monthly closing, and preparation of supplemental WIP (Work-In-Progress) schedules. The Accounting Manager will also coordinate external audits, ensure compliance with GAAP, and supervise accounting personnel.


The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and experienced in the construction industry, with a strong understanding of percentage-of-completion accounting and project cost controls.


Essential Functions

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Oversee daily accounting operations, including A/P, A/R, payroll, general ledger, and fixed assets.
  • Manage the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Prepare internal financial statements, variance analyses, and management reports.
  • Review and reconcile subsidiary ledgers, including intercompany transactions.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and chart of accounts.


Job Cost & Project Accounting

  • Monitor and report job cost performance, ensuring accuracy of cost coding and budget tracking.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly WIP (Work-in-Progress) schedules and revenue recognition under percentage-of-completion accounting.
  • Partner with Project Managers and Estimators to ensure accurate cost-to-complete projections and margin reporting.
  • Review project billings, subcontractor pay applications, and retention schedules.


Process Management & Internal Controls

  • Develop, document, and implement effective internal controls across all accounting processes.
  • Streamline accounting workflows for greater efficiency and accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards (GAAP), and contractual requirements.


Audit, Compliance, and Tax Coordination

  • Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors and tax preparers.
  • Prepare and support audit work papers and documentation requests.
  • Assist with federal, state, and local tax filings, including sales and use tax.
  • Support compliance with bonding, insurance, and banking covenants.


Leadership & Team Development

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff, fostering a culture of accuracy and accountability.
  • Provide training and support for project teams on cost reporting and accounting procedures.
  • Lead by example in maintaining a high standard of integrity, professionalism, and teamwork.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience in public or private accounting.
  • Construction industry experience is preferred with a general contractor using job cost and WIP accounting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field (required).
  • CPA or CMA certification (preferred but not required).
  • Experience with audit coordination and GAAP compliance.
  • Strong working knowledge of percentage-of-completion accounting and construction job cost systems.
  • Proficiency with accounting and ERP systems such as SAP (preferred), Viewpoint, or Sage 300 Construction.
  • Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with data analysis and reporting tools.
  • Excellent understanding of internal control systems and financial process design.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven leadership and staff development capabilities.
