Brief Description

UNDERSTANDING

The Safety Manager will assist in leading the company’s safety program and is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive safety program that ensures a safe, healthy, and compliant work environment for everyone. He or she will lead a cross functional team that ensures compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and local reporting agencies while maintaining adherence to all company policies and procedures. Responsibility to enforce and maintain programs such as Hazardous Communications, Lockout/Tagout, Machine Guarding, Respiratory Protection, Ergonomics, Electrical Safety, Personal Protective Equipment, Confined Space Entry, Emergency Action Plans, Fire Safety, Bloodborne Pathogens, and First Aid Training is required.

WORKING RELATIONSHIP

  • Reports to the Director of Safety
  • Communicate regularly and has a strong relationship with team members in multiple departments
  • Will interact daily with employees throughout the entire organization at every level

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all safety-related matters across the organization.
  • Supervise, support, and mentor Safety Coordinators in daily operations, long-term initiatives, and personal development.
  • Oversee key responsibilities of direct reports, including, but not limited to all safety documentation, including job safety analysis, daily job site hazard analysis, and various compliance reports; safety training, certifications, and toolbox talks subject matter; PPE and safety equipment inventory.
  • Provide regular updates on safety performance, compliance, and initiatives to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Develop and enforce safety policies, procedures, and training programs in alignment with regulatory requirements and company standards.
  • Ensure timely and accurate submissions to various web-based compliance programs.
  • Ensure the proper maintenance, accuracy, and regulatory compliance of all OSHA-mandated injury and illness records as well as State and local environmental reporting.
  • Lead regular site inspections to assess safety conditions, enforce compliance, and drive timely corrective actions to mitigate risks.
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and ensure corrective action planning and execution.
  • Promote continuous improvement through safety drills and employee engagement.
  • Conduct new hire safety training, annual employee training ensuring full understanding of Albanese Confectionery and insurance safety policies.
  • Lead the planning and execution of any safety stand down or one-point lessons on the spot.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee and company information.
  • Make recommendations on engineering and work practice controls needed to eliminate or minimize staff exposure to potential hazards.
  • Maintain a strategic mindset, balancing short-term priorities with long-term safety goals to drive continuous improvement.
  • Act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, contributing to the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the safety department.

Requirements

  • 5-10 years of Health, Safety & Environmental experience; manufacturing environment
  • Minimum of 5 years as an EHS Manager or in a proven EHS leadership position
  • In-depth knowledge of H&S regulations, including OSHA and local requirements
  • Must have strong leadership skills including effective communications, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all departments and all levels of the organization
  • Problem solver and works well independently and in a team environment
  • Proven record of abilities to investigate all safety of work environment scenarios
  • Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office; Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Extensive knowledge of standards, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in the industry
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be detailed oriented
  • Must be able to speak, read and write in English.

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Professional certifications, or college preferred
