Job Location: 100% REMOTE/ Petersburg, VA (need to work EST hours.)
Project Duration: 6 months with possible extension
Environment is mix of red hat Linux(30%) and windows(70%)- candidate must have experience with both

JOB DESCRIPTION
Duties:
We are seeking Senior Systems Administrator at R** college in Petersburg, VA on a 6-month contract period. . In this role, you’ll ensure the reliability, security, and performance of Windows and Red Hat Linux servers in a VMware environment, while supporting key enterprise systems like Ellucian Banner, Canvas, and Unidata.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform OS upgrades, patches, and system performance tuning
- Maintain server security and support vulnerability remediation
- Troubleshoot issues across Windows, Linux, VMware, and enterprise apps
- Support DR planning, documentation, and implementation
- Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to resolve technical issues
- Assist with cloud migrations and create/maintain technical procedures
- Manage integrations (APIs, SFTP, web services) for ERP and related systems
What You Bring:
- 5+ years of system administration experience
- Strong Windows, Red Hat Linux, VMware, and scripting skills (PowerShell/Unix)
- Experience with Banner, Unidata, Transact, Perceptive Content, Canvas
- Knowledge of CIS controls, ITIL, networking, firewalls, and database admin
- Ability to support after-hours maintenance when required
- Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills
NOTE:
- Looking for a Sr. level Sys Admin- VMware, windows and Linux experience- they will be the only sys admin for the university but will have backup from the team- covering for a medical leave-once permanent resource returns there will be at least a month of overlap with this resource to ensure a smooth transition
- Prefer someone who has worked in larger campus environment with a wide range of server experience- environment is mix of red hat Linux(30%) and windows(70%)- candidate must have experience with both
