Job Description
About Mandrel
Mandrel is building the AI-native ERP for physical goods. Today, our wedge is simple and painful: true, auditable gross margin by SKU and channel, tied to real supply-chain source-of-truth documents. By grounding financial reporting in operational data, we give operators real-time clarity into inventory, costs, and cash flows.
Founded in 2023, Mandrel has raised over $12M from top-tier investors including Lux Capital, Construct Capital, Zigg Capital, Asymmetric Capital Partners, WndrCo, and Clocktower Ventures. We are headquartered in New York and bring deep expertise in finance, AI, and scaled operations.
About this role
Mandrel’s Accounting Services business plays a unique and strategic role in our product roadmap: it is both a proving ground and a multiplier for our ERP platform. By operating real accounting workflows end-to-end for customers, this team pressure-tests new features, validates product assumptions, and uncovers the automation opportunities that inform how our ERP scales across our customer base.
As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you will sit at the center of this feedback loop. You’ll work directly with Mandrel accountants and client stakeholders to understand their workflows, translate them into well-designed technical systems, and build integrations and AI-powered automations that eliminate manual work. The systems you build will not only power our accounting services operations, but also drive foundational workflows and components of Mandrel’s ERP platform.
This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives in ambiguous, real-world environments, loves diving deep into business processes, and wants to help shape the technical backbone of how modern accounting for physical goods businesses should be run.
What You'll Do
- Partner with Product and the Accounting Services team to understand real finance and accounting workflows and identify high-leverage opportunities for AI-driven automation.
- Translate accounting, finance, and operational requirements into technical specifications for AI-assisted workflows.
- Build and maintain integrations with ecommerce platforms, financial systems, and other third-party tools to create unified, high-quality datasets.
- Develop ETL pipelines, reconciliation engines, and anomaly-detection systems to improve data completeness, accuracy, and classification.
- Implement automation using a blend of deterministic logic and LLM-powered agents to eliminate manual tasks and accelerate financial close processes.
- Rapidly prototype AI-assisted tools, iterate with accountants, and transform validated workflows into reusable components.
- Contribute to shaping how AI is applied across accounting operations, influencing both internal service delivery and the long-term design of Mandrel’s ERP platform.
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional software engineering experience (backend-leaning or full-stack).
- Proficient in our core stack: TypeScript, NestJS, GraphQL, Next.js, PostgreSQL, and Redis
- Experience building real-time systems (WebSockets, subscriptions, event-driven architectures)
- Experience with AI/ML integrations (agentic workflows, document processing, content extraction)
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS) and containerization (Docker)
- Comfortable working directly with non-technical stakeholders in a complex domain — translating ambiguous business requirements into technical designs.
- Comfortable operating in an ambiguous environment, owning outcomes end-to-end, and shipping scrappy solutions quickly that improve business operations.
- Bonus: experience with inventory management, document processing, financial, or general ledger systems
Why Join Us

- Play a key role as an early team member at a growing startup with a high level of ownership, working directly with the founding team and customers
- Join a high-performing team with a high talent bar and a thriving, collaborative in-person culture — we love dissecting problems and whiteboarding creative solutions.
