About The Role

The Northrop Grumman Space Sector is seeking a highly skilled DevOps Engineer at Level 3 or 4 to join our team in Morrisville, North Carolina. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on revolutionary systems that have a significant impact on national security and space exploration. The position is 100% onsite, requiring physical presence at our Morrisville facility, and follows a 9/80 work schedule, providing every other Friday off. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining automated deployment pipelines, infrastructure, and operational support systems that enable rapid capability development and deployment. This role demands a proactive approach to system monitoring, automation, and security, working closely with development teams, vendors, and IT personnel to ensure seamless system performance and security compliance. The engineer will play a pivotal role in evolving processes, integrating automation tools, and supporting continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) pipelines to accelerate program capabilities.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate must possess an active Top-Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance along with an adjudicated Counterintelligence polygraph (CI Poly) at the time of application. Candidates should have a strong background in software development, systems administration, and automation, with experience working within Agile frameworks. Educational requirements vary by level: a bachelor’s degree with at least 5 years of software development experience or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree for Level 3; or a master’s degree with 3 years (Level 3) or 6 years (Level 4) of relevant experience; or a PhD with 1 year (Level 3) or 4 years (Level 4) of experience. Additionally, candidates should hold or be able to obtain a CompTIA Security+ certification within six months of employment. Experience with Linux administration, cloud platforms such as AWS, container orchestration tools like Kubernetes, and automation tools such as Terraform, Jenkins, or GitLab is highly preferred. Knowledge of security protocols, system monitoring, and scripting for infrastructure automation is also essential.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and evolve infrastructure and processes to support rapid program capability maturation and deployment.
  • Integrate development pipelines with automation, leveraging test-driven development tools, and continuous integration/test frameworks.
  • Define and establish standards for build, deployment, provisioning, and system monitoring to ensure consistency and reliability across projects.
  • Implement and maintain Software Configuration Management (SCM), code quality, and automated testing within CI/CD pipelines.
  • Collaborate with Agile development teams to automate deployment, monitoring, and infrastructure management workflows.
  • Create and manage delivery environments supporting CI/CD tools, ensuring smooth and efficient software releases.
  • Develop scripts and templates to automate infrastructure provisioning and management tasks, reducing manual intervention.
  • Work closely with development teams and vendors to troubleshoot, resolve issues, and optimize system performance.
  • Monitor, support, and maintain all installed systems and infrastructure components to ensure high availability and security.
  • Design and implement security, backup, and redundancy strategies to safeguard critical systems and data.
  • Evaluate application performance, identify bottlenecks, and develop solutions to enhance system efficiency.
  • Install, configure, test, and maintain operating systems, application software, and system management tools.
  • Contribute to the design of information and operational support systems to improve overall system architecture.
