Senior Data Engineer at Handoff
We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to own and scale our data infrastructure. You will design and maintain data pipelines, data models, and analytics workflows to ensure reliable, high-quality data across our platform.
This is a hands-on role where you’ll work with tools like Airflow, AWS Athena, Metabase, and SQL to ensure our team - from Product to Operations - has clean, reliable data to make smarter decisions.
What you'll do
- Design, implement, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines using Airflow
- Develop data models across the Medallion Architecture layers to support analytics and reporting
- Optimize SQL queries for large datasets in AWS Athena and other relational systems
- Build and maintain dashboards and BI workflows using Metabase
- Collaborate with Product, Operations, and Analytics teams to define startup metrics and KPIs
- Ensure data quality, governance, and reproducibility across the data warehouse/lake
- Establish best practices for data engineering and analytics
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering or related roles
- Strong SQL expertise with experience tuning queries and designing efficient schemas
- Hands-on experience with Airflow for workflow orchestration
- Familiarity with AWS services, especially Athena, S3, Glue, and Redshift
- Experience building analytics dashboards with Metabase or similar BI tools
- Understanding of Medallion Architecture and layered data pipelines
- Strong understanding of startup/product metrics and how to translate them into analytics workflows
- Proficiency in Python for data engineering and ETL tasks
- Collaborative and able to work cross-functionally with product and business teams
