Job Description
We’re hiring a Lead Cloud Architect to take ownership of our AWS platform—originally built from scratch—then scale, harden, and evolve it as we move into full production and broader commercial rollout. You’ll lead architecture decisions, guide implementation, and help shape the product alongside a small, fast-moving team.
This is a hands-on leadership role: you’ll architect, review, and drive delivery (and may still code when needed), while setting technical direction and standards.
What You’ll Do
- Own end-to-end cloud architecture on AWS: reliability, scalability, cost, and security.
- Lead continued development of backend services and APIs supporting the product ecosystem.
- Drive identity, authentication, and user access controls (RBAC/permissions, secure multi-tenant patterns).
- Architect and support IoT/device connectivity and data flows (device identity, telemetry, monitoring, uptime).
- Evaluate and execute modernization/migration initiatives where appropriate (improving patterns established early on).
- Establish engineering standards: CI/CD, observability, incident response, performance tuning, and documentation.
- Lead and coordinate work across internal engineers and external contributors/contractors as needed.
- Partner closely with leadership and cross-functional stakeholders to prioritize what matters most given a high-growth, high-urgency environment.
What We’re Looking For (Must-Haves)
- Senior-level experience owning AWS architecture for production systems (built it, scaled it, supported it).
- Strong backend fundamentals: API design, distributed systems, data modeling, performance, and reliability.
- Proven experience implementing authn/authz and access control in real products.
- Meaningful experience with IoT architectures (device identity, connectivity, telemetry pipelines, monitoring).
- Prior experience in a startup / early-stage environment (ambiguity, speed, strong ownership).
- Strong communication + collaboration skills; you enjoy being in a social, in-office environment.
Nice to Have
- Experience supporting a product through manufacturing ramp / hardware-scale-up.
- Expertise in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/CDK/CloudFormation) and secure cloud governance.
- Experience shipping systems used by large enterprise customers (complex requirements, SLAs, compliance).
- Familiarity with cold chain / logistics / regulated domains (not required).
Work Style & Culture
- In-office, collaborative team with a friendly, high-energy culture.
- We’re looking for someone who’s comfortable being visible, engaged, and communicative—not someone who prefers to work in a silo.
Interview Process
- Initial screen: technical + personality/fit
- Second round: deeper technical with leadership
- Final: onsite interview
