Interim HR Generalist / HR Consultant
3-Month Consulting Engagement | Fully Remote
We are partnering with a multi-site, mission-driven education organization to engage an experienced HR Generalist / HR Consultant for a 3-month consulting assignment supporting maternity leave coverage within a lean HR function.
This engagement is well-suited for an HR professional who enjoys stepping into dynamic environments, quickly assessing priorities, and providing steady, high-impact support across core HR operations.

Engagement Overview:
As an Interim HR Consultant, you will serve as a trusted partner to leadership and the internal HR team, helping stabilize day-to-day HR operations during a critical coverage period. The focus is on execution, continuity, and operational excellence, with opportunities to bring structure and process clarity where needed.
Scope of Work:
- Provide hands-on HR generalist support across the employee lifecycle
- Lead employee onboarding and offboarding processes
- Manage FMLA administration and employee leave documentation
- Support HR compliance across Illinois and Indiana
- Oversee employee data updates, status changes, and merit increases
- Partner with IT and third-party vendors on system access, equipment provisioning, and terminations
- Support benefits administration and cleanup following a recent carrier transition
- Maintain accurate, compliant employee records and documentation
- Assist with incident reporting and general employee relations inquiries
- Provide surge support during high-volume hiring cycles tied to academic program start dates
Requirements:
- 5+ years of progressive HR Generalist or HR Manager experience
- Strong working knowledge of FMLA and core HR operations
- Experience supporting employee populations in both Illinois and Indiana
- Comfortable operating independently in a lean, fast-moving environment
- Highly responsive, organized, and solutions-oriented
- Collaborative partner with a calm, steady approach during periods of change
Preferred (Not Required):
- HR certification (SHRM, PHR, or similar)
- Experience with Proliant or comparable HRIS platforms
