Position: Homeroom Learning Designer (International Elementary School Teacher)

Job Overview: We are seeking a research-driven, results-driven, and experienced inquiry-based Learning Designer (homeroom teacher) to deliver instruction that develops academic English language competencies and project-based learning skills which are key for learners who predominantly use English as an additional language. This role involves the implementation of the pedagogies of the IB Primary Years Program in the translanguaging classroom to ensure each student’s healthy learning and growth. The successful candidate must be equipped with the willingness to collaborate closely with coordinators and other Learning Designers for the purpose of designing transdisciplinary units, developing differentiated and concept-based literacy, numeracy, science and social studies content in line with the IB PYP, and inspiring a love for self-directed learning. This is a full-time position.

Requirements & Preferences
Experience: Transdisciplinary and inquiry-based teaching experience in an International School setting and / or English Language Immersion setting
Skills: Classroom management skills; CEFR C1+ English language proficiency; ability to be patient, caring, creative, open-minded, and to have a genuine passion for being a partner in the learner’s learning
Knowledge: Deep understanding of constructivist approaches, inquiry-based learning, and stages in developmental psychology; knowledge of theory and practices in multilingualism, language acquisition, and language proficiency scales such as CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference) and WIDA (World-class
Instructional Design and Assessment); understanding of individualized education plans (IEPs) and the ability to implement them effectively

Working Conditions & Benefits
• Working hours: 7:45am - 4:00pm (7:45am - 4:50pm on Wednesdays and 7:45am - 3:10pm on Fridays)
• Working days: Monday through Friday with occasional Saturdays or Sundays

• Remuneration: Starting Monthly Base Salary Range: Between 333,400 yen and 416,700 yen (approx. between 4,500,000 yen and 5,000,000 yen per year) The first year at AICWC can be a steep learning curve regardless of experience or qualifications especially for those transitioning from an ESL to an EFL environment, and for those without exposure to a translanguaging learning environment.

Job Description

• Reports to: PYP Coordinator (PYPC) for curriculum-related issues, Principal
• Key collaborative relationships: PYPC, other Coordinators, Specialist Learning Designers, other Homeroom Learning Designers, and Administrative Staff
Main Role:
• Implement the pedagogies of the IB Primary Years Program in the translanguaging classroom to
ensure each student’s healthy learning and growth
• Collaborate with Specialist Learning Designers to design transdisciplinary units
• Develop and deliver differentiated and engaging literacy, numeracy and transdisciplinary content in line with the IB PYP
• Inspire a love for self-directed learning, project-based learning, as well as attaining literacy and numeracy skills
Other Key Tasks:
• Communicate with parents and guardians in a professional manner
• Communicate all day-to-day issues and share project guidelines with parents using online platform
• Effectively conduct all consultations (e.g. student-led conferences, meetings with parents, etc.)
• Treat all students and staff with respect
• Educate student responsibility
• Nurture students to autonomously engage in learning
• Ensure assessment, monitoring and recording of student progress
• Effectively conduct Exhibition(-like) summative tasks such as the Celebration of Learning
• Ensure assessment is used as part of the learning process
• Ensure meaningful reporting of results to each student
• Participate in teacher appraisals
• Demonstrate eagerness to make changes in response to feedback from students, parents, PYPC and administrators
• Active participation in continued professional development in order to remain relevant, and to stay abreast of latest developments in the International Baccalaureate program
• Initiate change and / or the creation of new programs and projects
• Comply with policies and quality control measures (in accordance with IBO Standards & Practices)
• Attend staff / teacher meetings for effective communication and coordination on various issues
• Cooperate with and make time for other staff; Help improve others
