Job Description

System Engineer – Application servers


to operate & evolve the company’s Hosting platforms. This role focuses on the application layer supporting enterprise‑grade web hosting & critical services, ensuring high availability, security & performance across a large‑scale infrastructure. Field: national provider of cloud, hosting, domain registration, data center & trust services (including certified email/PEC)


Key Responsibilities

  • Operate & maintain the ELK / Kafka‑based log ingestion & search stack, ensuring high availability, scaling & fine‑tuning (topics, partitions, shards, indices, ILM, retention)
  • Proactively monitor capacity & performance; analyze monthly reports & trends to forecast growth & prevent incidents
  • Engineer & optimize Logstash pipelines, Grok patterns & parsing/transport paths; reprocess failed events & reduce parsing failure rates
  • Implement patch management, address end‑of‑life scenarios & apply security fixes according to guidelines provided by the Security function
  • Maintain observability dashboards & metrics (Grafana/Elastic) & improve alerting fidelity
  • Administer & optimize application servers & reverse proxy components, including Nginx, Apache HTTP Server, Tomcat & WildFly, ensuring scalability & resilience
  • Configure & maintain reverse proxy & load balancing for high‑traffic hosting environments


Requirements

  • Solid hands‑on experience administering ELK ecosystems at scale, including Kafka / Zookeeper, Logstash, Elasticsearch cluster sizing & tuning
  • Strong Linux systems administration (Ubuntu, CentOS/RHEL, Debian) in clustered HA environments; working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server 2012–2019 as needed
  • Strong expertise in Nginx (reverse proxy, SSL termination, caching) & Apache HTTP Server configuration
  • Hands‑on experience with Tomcat & WildFly & troubleshooting application‑level issues
  • Knowledge of load balancing, high availability clustering & performance tuning for web hosting platforms
  • IaC: Ansible (roles, inventories, AWX) & Terraform for provisioning & drift control
  • CI/CD & versioning: GitLab
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes (Incident/Change/Service Request) & ticketing via JIRA
  • Clear technical writing for run books & operational documentation


Location: completely full remote – Italy-based
