About The Role
Clockwise is seeking a highly skilled Senior or Staff Backend Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. In this role, you will focus on designing and implementing scalable backend systems that directly enhance user experience. The ideal candidate is passionate about building end-user-centric solutions and is eager to contribute to a fast-moving, collaborative environment. You will work closely with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers to develop intelligent time management features, optimize system performance, and influence strategic technical decisions. This position offers an exciting opportunity to leverage your expertise in systems engineering, data modeling, and automation to deliver impactful features that help users reclaim their time. The role also involves working with cutting-edge technologies, including large language models (LLMs), and participating in the continuous improvement of our code quality and development processes.
Qualifications
- Proven experience modeling data (relational and non-relational) and processing large-scale information
- Strong commitment to automated testing and quality assurance practices
- Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, particularly on AWS
- Familiarity with LLM tool-chains, probabilistic systems, and AI/ML integration
- Proficiency in backend programming languages such as Java, Rust, or Python
- Experience working with modern frameworks and technologies like Kubernetes, GraphQL, and Docker
- Excellent collaboration skills with stakeholders across product, design, and engineering teams
- Passion for continuous learning and professional growth in engineering
- Interest in productivity tools, workflows, and building consumer-centric solutions
Responsibilities
- Architect and develop scalable backend systems that significantly impact user experience and productivity
