Role Overview
The Senior Network Engineer serves as a technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) responsible for analyzing, designing, documenting, and supporting complex enterprise network environments. This role focuses heavily on network documentation, advanced troubleshooting, and knowledge base creation while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Document current customer network diagrams
- Serve as first response for advanced network break/fix issues
- Create and maintain KB articles for network resolutions
- Spend significant time working in Visio for network documentation
- Participate in daily standups, Teams chats, and ad-hoc support calls
- Attend pre-scheduled meetings to research customer network connectivity
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and test all elements of network infrastructure
- Design and implement network solutions based on business requirements
- Plan, design, and implement data network infrastructure components
- Coordinate development and maintenance of network procedures, standards, and specifications
- Act as a technical SME in network analysis, design, and engineering
- Ensure system improvements are implemented and monitored for efficiency
- Oversee and mentor less experienced network engineers
- Manage network projects including pilots, conversions, and implementations
- Participate in audits and compliance processes
- Design network architecture for line-of-business or enterprise-wide projects
- Troubleshoot the most complex network issues
- Establish network priorities aligned with business goals
- Continuously enhance knowledge of emerging technologies and vendor solutions
Required Skills & Experience (Must-Have)
- Strong understanding and hands-on application of routing, switching, and firewall concepts
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Strong organizational skills with an emphasis on detailed documentation
Preferred Skills (Nice-to-Have)
- Cisco and Palo Alto VPN configuration experience
- Advanced CCNP-level WAN routing knowledge
- Palo Alto Firewall experience
Experience & Education
- 8–10 years of related network engineering experience
- BS in Engineering or equivalent technical experience
Technical Requirements
- Expert knowledge of network management tools, test equipment, circuits, and modems
- Extensive knowledge of TCP/IP protocol stack and firewall security
- Advanced knowledge of X.25, Frame Relay, Ethernet, and Token Ring
- Experience with routers, hubs, and bridges
- Experience with SNMP management tools, POC-based tools, and MS Office preferred
- Demonstrated project management experience
Certifications
- Required: CCNA, CCNP
- Preferred: CCIE, CCDP
