SDET (Software Development Engineer in Test) with deep expertise in Java programming to design, build, and maintain test automation frameworks from the ground up. This role is ideal for someone who thinks like a developer, is passionate about software quality engineering, and thrives in highly technical, fast-paced environments. This role if full time with full benefits and 100% remote anywhere in the U.S.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable and reusable test automation frameworks in Java from scratch.
- Select and integrate appropriate automation tools and libraries (e.g., Selenium, REST Assured, TestNG, JUnit).
- Implement best practices for framework architecture, coding standards, and maintainability.
- Develop automated tests for UI, API, and backend services.
- Collaborate with developers to ensure testability of features and services.
- Review requirements and technical designs to identify automation opportunities early.
- Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps).
- Work within Docker containers and implement automation frameworks within Docker.
- Analyze test failures and improve test reliability and execution time.
- Define automation strategy and coverage goals aligned with release objectives.
- Advocate for shift-left testing, code quality, and defect prevention.
- Provide leadership through mentorship, code reviews, and technical guidance within the QA function.
Required Qualifications
- Strong hands-on experience programming in Java.
- 4+ years of experience in SDET, or Software Engineering roles.
- Experience testing web-based, SaaS, or microservices-based applications.
- Proven experience building automation frameworks from scratch, not just maintaining existing ones.
- Solid knowledge of test automation tools such as: Selenium / WebDriver, REST Assured (or similar API automation tools), TestNG / JUnit
- Knowledge of Docker.
- Experience with API testing, data-driven testing, and test reporting.
- Strong understanding of OOP principles, design patterns, and clean code practices.
- Experience working with Git-based version control systems.
- Familiarity with build tools (Maven, Gradle).
