Northrop Grumman Defense Systems (NGDS) is seeking a Principal/Sr. Principal Cyber Software Engineer (T03/T04) to join our team in Huntsville, AL.

Job Description

  • Administer systems based on Linux and Windows operating systems
  • Automate system deployment, operation and maintenance using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Configuration Management (CM) tooling
  • Work with microservices and distributed application architecture, such as containers, Kubernetes, and/or serverless technology
  • Implement clean and maintainable infrastructure-as-code that adheres to industry best practices
  • Automate cloud native technologies in air-gapped environments, deploy applications, and provision critical infrastructure
  • Design and implement security measures, such as firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, and encryption
  • Implement and maintain security policies and procedures to comply with industry standards and regulations
  • Provide technical guidance and training to other team members and stakeholders
  • This engineer will bring experience in administering, integrating, and maintaining core data services and storage solutions within an enterprise environment.
  • This engineer will be familiar with DNS concepts and basic networking concepts. Additionally, this engineer will have experience managing headless systems with PowerShell and Bash.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

Basic Qualifications

  • Principal Cyber Software Engineer: Bachelor's degree with 5 years of experience; or Master's degree with 3 years of experience; PhD with 1 year of experience or 4 additional year of experience in lieu of degree.
  • Sr Principal Cyber Software Engineer: Bachelor's degree with 8 years of experience; or Master's degree with 6 years of experience; PhD with 4 years of experience or 4 additional year of experience in lieu of degree.

Required For Both Levels

  • Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope, with an ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need.
  • Certifications: Current Security + or equivalent certification or greater or ability to obtain, within 6 months or less of hire, DoD 8570 / AFMAN 17-1303 qualification at IASAE 3 level
  • 2+ years of experience with build configuration languages (e.g., python, json, yaml)
  • 2+ years of experience in software development.
  • 2+ years of experience in SQL and hands-on experience with major relational database management systems (RDBMS) such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server.
  • 2+ years of experience with TCP/IP, subnets, routing, and VLAN configurations
  • Experience with hypervisor & hyperconverged tools (e.g., ESXi, Harvester, Hyper-V).
  • Knowledge of MircoService architectures and containerization technologies
  • Experience administering, integrating, and maintaining DevOps platform tools such as GitLab, Nexus Repository, and Vault.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance.
  • Proven experience implementing and managing high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions, including clustering, data archiving, and advanced database replication techniques.
  • Familiarity with data warehousing concepts processes and tools.
  • Extensive experience developing and managing robust infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Fluentd).
  • Strong scripting/programming ability (e.g., Bash, Python, Groovy, Ruby, PowerShell)
  • Expertise with Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform, Ansible, Chef, Puppet)
  • Experience working in secure, disconnected, or air-gapped multi-cluster environments.
  • Experience with storage replication and disaster-recovery solutions
  • Understanding of enterprise backup, archiving, and compliance requirements
  • Solid understanding of storage area networks (SAN), network-attached storage (NAS), and hyperconverged infrastructure

Primary Level Salary Range: $119,600.00 - $179,400.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $149,300.00 - $223,900.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
