Resource 1 is seeking a Senior Power BI Developer for a 6-month contract-to-hire, fully remote engagement. Please note that our client is only able to hire candidates located in select areas of the U.S., including AZ, FL, IL, KY, MO, MI, PA, and VA.
Candidates must have hands-on experience building enterprise reports on top of Azure Data Lake / Lakehouse architectures. This role focuses on front-end Power BI development, consuming engineer-built semantic models, and collaborating closely with data engineering teams to evolve analytics solutions as business needs change.
The ideal candidate has solid Power BI expertise, strong semantic modeling experience, and understands modern Power BI workflows in environments where data is curated in a Lakehouse (Microsoft Fabric / ADLS Gen2 / similar platforms) and can translate well-modeled data into high-quality, and user-friendly dashboards.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, optimize, and maintain semantic models used by Power BI reports, in collaboration with data engineering teams and Lakehouse architecture.
- Design, develop, and enhance Power BI reports and dashboards using Power BI Desktop.
- Connect Power BI to Azure Data Lake (ADLS Gen2), Microsoft Fabric Lakehouse, OneLake, or similar cloud data platforms.
- Create DAX measures, calculations, and business logic to support analytics and reporting needs.
- Design and implement report visuals, layouts, filters, slicers, and user interactions.
- Collaborate with data engineers and architects to evolve semantic models as new requirements and data needs surface.
- Publish and manage reports in the Power BI Service for enterprise consumption.
- Implement and maintain data governance, including Row-Level Security (RLS) and role-based access control (RBAC) within Power BI solutions.
- Validate data accuracy, troubleshoot issues, and optimize report and model performance.
- Support iterative development cycles and ongoing enhancements in a remote, Agile environment.
Required Qualifications
- 7–8+ years of experience as a Power BI Developer, Senior BI Developer, or similar enterprise role.
- Strong hands-on experience building and optimizing semantic models, including measures, relationships, and business logic.
- Advanced proficiency with Power BI Desktop, including DAX, performance tuning, and report design.
- Experience working with Azure Data Lake (ADLS Gen2), Microsoft Fabric Lakehouse, OneLake, or comparable cloud data platforms.
- Proven experience collaborating with data engineering teams responsible for pipelines, ingestion, and data curation.
- Strong SQL skills and solid data modeling fundamentals.
- Strong experience implementing data governance, Row-Level Security (RLS), and role-based access control in Power BI solutions.
- Experience publishing, managing, and supporting reports in Power BI Service.
- Ability to work independently and communicate effectively in a fully remote environment.
Preferred / Nice to Have
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric and Fabric-first analytics architectures.
- Familiarity with cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, Synapse, or Azure SQL.
- Prior experience in the Banking or Financial Services industry.
- Azure certifications, such as DP-300 (Azure Database Administrator Associate).
