About The Work

This team is building a new class of visual generative AI products designed for everyday life. The focus is on helping people capture, reinterpret, and revisit meaningful moments through personalized image generation that feels authentic, human, and emotionally grounded. The technology sits at the intersection of photography, creative tools, and machine learning, with the ambition of redefining how people interact with visual memories.

The team is small, hands on, and deeply craft driven. Researchers, engineers, and designers work closely together to turn ambitious ideas into real products. This is an early stage environment where curiosity, ownership, and taste matter as much as technical skill.

The role

This is an opportunity to become the first backend engineer on a consumer facing AI product. You will partner directly with machine learning researchers and product engineers to turn experimental models into reliable, scalable systems used by real people. In parallel, you will design and own the backend foundation that supports a modern consumer application, from identity and data systems to infrastructure and observability.

The role blends rapid iteration with thoughtful systems design. You will move quickly, make foundational decisions, and build technology that can evolve as the product and team grow.

What You Will Do

• Design and operate production grade APIs that power consumer applications at scale.
• Work closely with machine learning engineers to deploy and serve AI models as dependable services.
• Build and maintain core backend systems including authentication, user data, and analytics.
• Own infrastructure, deployments, monitoring, and CI CD workflows to support fast and safe iteration.
• Collaborate with frontend engineers to enable rapid product development without sacrificing quality.
• Take projects from early concept through launch, iteration, and growth.
• Establish technical foundations, documentation, and best practices for future engineers.
  
  

What We Are Looking For

• Experience building backend systems from the ground up, either at an early stage startup or while leading new product initiatives.
• Strong judgment around API design and backend architecture for client facing products.
• Comfort working with databases, caching strategies, and data models for both transactional and analytical use cases.
• Hands on experience with cloud infrastructure such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, along with containerized environments.
• Exposure to deploying and integrating machine learning models in real world production systems.
• An ability to balance fast prototyping with a high standard for reliability, testing, and maintainability.
• A sense of ownership, adaptability, and excitement about working across a wide surface area.
