Overview
We are supporting a leading FinTech organisation delivering a large-scale migration to BigQuery as part of their wider cloud data modernisation programme. They are seeking a senior GCP Data Architect with deep expertise in BigQuery migrations to design, lead, and govern the transition from legacy data platforms into a modern GCP-native architecture.
This is a hands-on architecture role where you will own the migration strategy, target-state design, and delivery execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end BigQuery migration programme (legacy DW → BigQuery)
- Design target-state architecture on GCP with BigQuery at the core
- Own:

- Architect scalable solutions using:

- Dataflow

- Redesign data models for cloud-native analytics
- Define:
- Partitioning

- Query optimisation strategies
- Oversee:
- Data quality
- Reconciliation
- Cutover planning
- Work closely with:
- Data engineering teams
- BI teams
- Compliance & risk
- Implement governance, security, and access controls
- Enable real-time and batch data pipelines
- Support AI/ML and advanced analytics use cases
Required Skills & Experience
- 7+ years in data architecture / engineering roles
- Proven track record leading BigQuery migrations
- Deep hands-on experience with:
- BigQuery (core skill)
- GCP architecture
- SQL performance tuning
- Experience migrating from:
- Teradata
- Snowflake
- Redshift
- On-prem data warehouses
- Strong experience with:
- Data modelling
- ELT/ETL pipelines
- Large-scale datasets
- Knowledge of:
- Partitioning
- Clustering
- Cost optimisation
- Experience in regulated environments (FinTech preferred)
- Strong stakeholder management skills
