Managed Services Practice Lead

Overview
The client is looking for a Managed Services Practice Lead to own and lead their managed IT services. This role is responsible for defining the services offered, setting delivery standards, and ensuring high-quality service for all managed services clients.
This position combines technical leadership, client-facing work, and team management. You will help design service offerings, support sales efforts, stay hands-on with client work, and lead a team delivering ongoing IT operations and cloud services.
Key Responsibilities
Practice & Service Development
- Define the managed services the client offers and how they are delivered
- Set standards, processes, and best practices across all managed services engagements
- Design and improve services such as migrations, optimization, and ongoing management
- Clearly define supported technologies and skill areas within the practice
- Stay current on market trends and new technologies to keep services competitive
- Drive industry certifications for the organization (ISO, CMMC, etc.)
- Create thought leadership through white papers, webinars, and conferences
- Monitor service revenue and profitability
Client Engagement & Delivery
- Work closely with sales teams to help scope managed services deals and support proposals
- Build strong relationships with key clients and understand their business needs
- Act as a trusted advisor, helping clients align IT strategy with business goals
- Participate in quarterly business reviews with clients
- Ensure services are delivered on time, within budget, and at a high quality
- Provide escalation support when issues arise
- Perform hands-on, billable client work (target of 50% utilization)
Team Leadership & Operations
- Lead, mentor, and develop a managed services team
- Define roles, career paths, and certification goals for team members
- Support recruiting by helping screen candidates for technical and cultural fit
- Provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback
- Work with delivery and operations leaders to allocate resources effectively
- Promote collaboration, knowledge sharing, and teamwork
- Track KPIs and adjust strategies to improve performance
- Collaborate with other practice leaders and senior leadership on company initiatives
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in enterprise IT, including consulting and infrastructure management
- 5+ years of experience managing the operations of a managed services team
- Strong leadership and client-facing experience
- Deep knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, IBM Cloud, or GCP
- Experience managing multi-tenant environments
- Knowledge of automation, DevOps, and CI/CD practices
- Experience with IT operations (monitoring, incident response, backup/recovery, cost optimization)
- Excellent communication and customer management skills
- U.S. citizenship required due to government contract requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Experience with automation, DevOps, and CI/CD tools
- Familiarity with cost management and financial optimization
- Knowledge of security and compliance standards (GDPR, HIPAA, etc.)
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; advanced degrees are a plus
