Job Description:
As an Edge Engineer, you will work closely with development teams and product partners to plan, build, and operate the systems that sit closest to our guests. These systems help ensure our digital experiences are fast, reliable, and protected.
You will support content delivery, traffic routing, security controls, and performance improvements using cloud and CDN platforms such as AWS and Akamai. The role balances day-to-day operational support with forward-looking improvements that help teams ship features safely and at scale.
This team values collaboration, clear communication, and shared ownership. You’ll participate in planning discussions, surface risks early, and work with peers to solve problems that impact real customer experiences. You’re encouraged to document your work, share insights, and use data to show progress and improvement.
Core Responsibilities:
- Configure and manage edge delivery settings that support new product features and releases.
- Partner with engineers and product teams to provide input on design, performance, and reliability throughout the delivery lifecycle.
- Coordinate with project managers to ensure features launch on time and remain stable during testing and rollout.
- Monitor web traffic and apply protective rules to reduce risk from unwanted or malicious activity while allowing legitimate users through.
- Review traffic patterns and logs to identify issues, investigate incidents, and improve site protection.
- Manage access lists and firewall rules, including adding, reviewing, renewing, and removing access as needed.
- Review page load behavior and traffic flow to identify performance issues and improvement opportunities.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and help drive initiatives that improve speed and consistency across digital properties.
- Build and maintain automation that improves deployment speed, consistency, and reliability.
- Work with development teams to enable self-service tools and reduce manual operational work.
- Document processes, create reference material, and share learnings with peers and leadership.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.
- 5+ years of experience in web performance, edge delivery, or web development–related roles.
- Solid understanding of how websites and browsers communicate and load content.
- Hands-on experience with CDN platforms such as Akamai, Cloudflare, or similar providers.
- Strong understanding of page load behavior and performance measurements.
- Experience working with security tools that protect against bots, abuse, and large-scale attacks.
- Ability to review traffic data and apply rules that balance protection and accessibility.
- Familiarity with bug tracking and task management tools (e.g., Jira or similar).
- Experience using website analytics, synthetic testing, real-user monitoring, and alerting tools.
- Some scripting or programming experience (such as Python or JavaScript).
