Lead Application Engineer for Semiconductor Test Solutions

Insight Global is seeking a Lead Application Engineer to join the team for a large semiconductor client in San Jose, CA. We are seeking a highly experienced Lead Application Engineer to develop cutting-edge test solutions across the entire test ecosystem including wafer test, package test, and system level test. This is a permanent, direct-hire opportunity with extensive relocation assistance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develops advanced test solutions across wafer‑level, package‑level, and system‑level test environments to support a broad semiconductor test ecosystem.
• Leads the architecture, integration, and optimization of complete test cells, ensuring seamless interaction between hardware, software, and automation components.
• Applies deep expertise in automated test equipment, engineering handlers, load boards, probe cards, and other complex test hardware to solve technical challenges.
• Performs hands‑on hardware bring‑up, debugging, correlation, and characterization to deliver reliable, high‑performance test solutions.
• Interfaces directly with customers to provide technical leadership, solution guidance, and support throughout development, deployment, and issue resolution.
• Collaborates with cross‑functional engineering teams to create scalable, efficient, and production‑ready test methodologies for next‑generation products.
• Validates new tester platforms and emerging technologies, driving improvements in throughput, reliability, and overall test efficiency.
• Contributes to ongoing innovation by staying current with industry trends and applying new concepts to enhance platform capabilities and test performance.

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of hands-on ATE and test development experience.
• SmarTest 7/8 experience (they need to have some exposure to SmarTest 8)
• Strong proficiency in test development using Java, Python, C++, Linux and automation scripting.
• Deep understanding of test architecture and test techniques on GPUs, CPUs, or AI chips.
• Ability to analyze schematics, evaluate signal integrity, and apply de-embedding methods.
• Familiarity with test sockets, probe cards, and probe technologies.

Compensation:

$150k to $185k base annually with additional 35% bonus

Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.
