FPGA Test Engineer for Advanced Neutron Detector Systems

We are seeking an experienced FPGA Test Engineer to support the development and validation of FPGA-based firmware for advanced neutron detector systems. This is a hands-on, technically focused role, ideal for an engineer who enjoys working across VHDL simulation, laboratory test environments, and automated test infrastructure.

You will play a key role in ensuring firmware quality and reliability by leading the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of both simulation and lab-based testbenches, while collaborating closely with internal teams and external partners.

This is a contract position, with the inital contract running for a 12 month period. There is a high chance of extension as the project will run until 2028. You will be required to work regulalry on-site in Lund, Sweden for this position. We are able to assist with relocation if needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, develop, and continuously improve VHDL simulation testbenches and lab target electronics testbenches
• Support integration and maintenance of the embedded data readout chain from neutron detector front-end nodes using Xilinx-based implementations
• Ensure reliable generation and validation of readout formats within systems using a common, accurate time base
• Drive testbench improvements, including:
• Automation and CI/CD using GitLab Runners
• Test coverage and traceability using JIRA Zephyr
• Clear and maintainable testbench documentation (README files)
• Define and maintain test routines to ensure firmware releases are thoroughly validated
• Organise and track day-to-day activities using JIRA

Requirements

• Experience in FPGA design and test methodology
• Experience with Xilinx Vivado and QuestaSim
• Experience developing automation scripts
• Linux environment experience, including scripting / Bash
• Experience with embedded systems and network protocols
• Experience defining and maintaining test suites
• Experience with Vitis
• Experience using GitLab Runners in CI environments
