Role Overview
We are seeking a Windows Systems Patching Engineer to provide ongoing, part-time support for monthly security patching and vulnerability remediation across a government cloud environment.
The engineer will be responsible for maintaining the security posture of approximately 300–400 Windows systems, including desktops and virtual machines, by applying approved security patches and addressing identified vulnerabilities during scheduled maintenance windows.
This role is strictly operational and execution-focused, supporting an established environment with defined processes and oversight.
Responsibilities
- Perform monthly security patching on Windows-based systems, including:
- User desktops
- Windows virtual machines
- Support patching and remediation for approximately 300–400 systems per cycle
- Apply operating system security updates and approved vulnerability fixes
- Validate patch installation and system health post-maintenance
- Identify, remediate, or escalate patch-related issues as needed
- Support vulnerability remediation efforts aligned with government security requirements
- Follow defined change management, maintenance, and documentation procedures
- Coordinate with government and contractor staff during maintenance windows
- Provide brief post-patching status updates or reports as required
Required Skills & Experience
- Hands-on experience performing Windows OS patching in enterprise or government environments
- Experience with desktop and virtual machine maintenance
- Familiarity with vulnerability remediation and security update processes
- Understanding of security best practices in regulated environments
- Ability to work independently during after-hours maintenance windows
- Strong attention to detail and operational discipline
Required Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship
- Active CompTIA Security+ certification
- Ability to work within government network environments
- Availability to work 7pm–2am EST on scheduled patching nights
Nice to Have
- Experience supporting government or DoD networks
- Familiarity with automated patching tools (e.g., WSUS, SCCM, endpoint management tools)
- Experience supporting environments subject to NIST or similar security frameworks
- Prior experience in rotating or on-call maintenance roles
Deliverables
- Successfully patched and updated Windows systems per maintenance cycle
- Verification of applied security updates
- Documentation or status reporting as required by the program
