Job Title: Data Visualization EngineerJob Description

We are seeking a Scientific Data Visualization Engineer to build and deliver high-impact analytical tools for Translational Medicine scientists and Biologists. This role involves developing interactive applications using R Shiny and TIBCO Spotfire, acting as a data steward to ensure high-quality, FAIR, and automated clinical and biomarker data. You will serve as the technical bridge between the raw data infrastructure and scientific end-users.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deploy a mix of custom R Shiny applications, framework-based tools, and TIBCO Spotfire dashboards to answer complex scientific questions.
  • Apply engineering best practices to automate dashboard updates and data pipelines, ensuring visualizations are integrated into live data workflows.
  • Partner with Data Engineers to define efficient schemas and views in the Data Lake (Azure Fabric) that optimize front-end performance.
  • Refine dashboard code to handle large-scale multi-omics datasets without compromising user experience.
  • Collaborate with IT and Translational Sciences to define and implement data ingestion patterns for clinical biomarker datasets.

Essential Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in R, specifically Shiny, reactive programming, and package development.
  • Proficiency in TIBCO Spotfire.
  • Strong grasp of ETL concepts and automation.
  • Ability to write complex SQL and scripts for data preparation automation.
  • Experience connecting R/Spotfire applications to cloud data sources such as Azure Fabric, Databricks, and AWS.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of professional experience in data visualization, data engineering, computational biology, or software engineering.
  • Experience with Shiny frameworks and the ability to build custom solutions.
  • Experience with data governance, metadata management, or FAIR data principles.

Work Environment

This is a remote role, primarily based on the East Coast. However, if you are located nearby, occasional in-office meetings are encouraged. The position offers a long-term opportunity with great team support and learning opportunities.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Wilmington, DE.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $70.00/hr.
