Job Description


This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Engineering Manager, Machine Learning in Canada.

This role is a rare opportunity to lead the machine learning strategy for a next-generation, AI-powered product used daily in real-world workflows. As a founding ML Engineering Manager, you will define how advanced models are applied to deliver highly contextual, personalized, and privacy-aware user experiences. You will operate in a fast-moving, product-driven environment where experimentation, iteration, and measurable impact are core to success. Working closely with design, product, and infrastructure partners, you will balance innovation with reliability at scale. This is a hands-on leadership role combining deep technical ownership with people leadership. The environment is remote-first, collaborative, and built for engineers who want to shape both technology and culture.

Accountabilities

  • Define and own the machine learning strategy, sequencing high-impact initiatives that improve user outcomes and long-term product capabilities.
  • Prototype, architect, and ship LLM-powered features that learn over time and personalize user experiences in production environments.
  • Lead the design and evolution of the ML stack and infrastructure, spanning on-device inference and server-side systems.
  • Establish strong ML developer workflows, including data pipelines, experimentation loops, evaluation frameworks, and continuous training.
  • Partner with security and infrastructure teams to ensure responsible data usage, privacy preservation, and secure deployment practices.
  • Build, mentor, and support a high-performing team of machine learning engineers, fostering a culture of learning, ownership, and psychological safety.
  • Contribute to broader engineering initiatives such as recruiting, onboarding, process improvement, and architectural decision-making.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience training, optimizing, and productionizing modern machine learning models in real-world products.
  • 3+ years of experience leading or mentoring senior engineers while driving complex, high-impact technical initiatives.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Python and modern ML tooling, including fine-tuning open-source LLMs beyond basic approaches.
  • Deep understanding of contemporary AI techniques and a passion for staying current with advances in the field.
  • Experience working with large-scale systems, experimentation frameworks, and model evaluation methodologies.
  • Product-oriented mindset with the ability to navigate ambiguous problems and move quickly in startup-style environments.
  • Availability to work with at least four hours of overlap with Eastern Time Zone.
  • Eligibility to work remotely from Canada.
