VP of Engineering (Travel Technology Startup) 


Building the Future of Travel Booking

Location: Remote (Ireland or UK preferred)

Reports to: CEO & Founder

Stage: Seed ➢ Early Series A

Team: Growing distributed engineering team - scaling


The Opportunity


We’re building the next generation of travel technology by reimagining how complex travel experiences are discovered, built, and booked online.


We’re looking for a VP of Engineering who is energized by building, not just managing. Someone who loves to create and share ideas, think outside the box, and work closely with our Head of Product, CEO, and our technology leads, with the vision to change how people book travel. This is a rare opportunity to shape a platform from the inside out, grow with the company, and play a pivotal role in scaling both the product and the team. We are seeking a VP of Engineering who is passionate and energized about building and innovating, not solely focused on management, and not afraid to get in the weeds with the tech team. 


This role requires a creative individual who enjoys generating and sharing new ideas, thinking unconventionally, and collaborating closely with our CEO, Head of Product, and technology leads. The ultimate goal is to revolutionize the way people book travel.


This is a unique chance to design and define a platform from the ground up, grow alongside the company, and be instrumental in scaling both our product and our engineering team.

What You’ll Do


Lead & Build


  • Own engineering delivery end-to-end: architecture, execution, quality, and scalability
  • Be hands-on where needed. This is a leadership role, but not a “sit on the sidelines” role
  • Set engineering standards, best practices, and development rhythms
  • Make smart, pragmatic technical decisions that balance speed and scale


Scale the Team


  • Hire, mentor, and grow a high-performing distributed engineering team
  • Build a culture of accountability, curiosity, and continuous improvement while empowering our team to be creative and to share their ideas.
  • Create clear ownership across frontend, backend, integrations, and infrastructure
  • Coach future leaders within the team as the company grows


Partner Across the Business 


  • With a major project that is being brought to work in unison, you’ll work closely with our Head of Engineering, Product, Commercial, and Operations teams
  • Translate product vision into executable technical roadmaps
  • Support partnerships and integrations across the travel ecosystem
  • Provide clarity and confidence in technical discussions with investors and partners

Experience We’re Looking For


  • 8-10+ years in software engineering
  • 4–6+ years leading engineering teams in startups or high-growth environments
  • Experience building and scaling SaaS, marketplaces, or transactional platforms
  • Background in travel, e-commerce, fintech, or complex integrations is a strong plus
  • Proven ability to lead remote and distributed teams
  • Track record of delivering products from early stage through growth


Technical Environment (Representative)


  • Modern web platforms and APIs
  • Cloud infrastructure (AWS / GCP)
  • Scalable backend systems and third-party integrations
  • CI/CD, security, and performance best practices
