Job Description
Job Title: Lead UX/UI Designer
Type: Freelance to Perm
Day Rate: £300–£350 per day
Location: Fully Remote
An established and fast-growing Global Digital Marketing & Technology Agency is bringing in a Lead UX/UI Designer to strengthen their senior design function.
You’ll be working with a high-performing international team of consultants, designers, developers, and copywriters on complex digital products for some of the world’s biggest brands.
The agency operates across the US, UK, Europe, and Australia and the role is 100% remote. This is initially a freelance engagement (3–6 months) with a clear route into a permanent role for the right person.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Designing and evolving scalable design systems across web, mobile, and digital platforms
- Building and expanding multi-brand design systems
- Auditing existing design assets and optimising performance and consistency
- Defining and documenting design principles, standards, and best practices
- Partnering with developers on component implementation and performance
- Working closely with product owners to shape and refine design requirements
- Creating accessible components aligned to WCAG standards
- Implementing and managing design tokens
- Advanced Figma work — building component libraries from scratch, using variables, Dev Mode, and ensuring clean handoffs
- Leading the full UX lifecycle: research, wireframes, prototypes, and visual design
- Running usability testing, user research, and feedback sessions
- Producing personas, user journeys, and interactive prototypes
- Applying strong UX best practices, including interaction patterns, information hierarchy, and usability principles
- Demonstrating a strong visual design sensibility, with excellent UI composition and layout skills
- Mentoring junior designers and raising the overall design standard
- Staying ahead of UX/UI trends and applying new thinking across products
- Ensuring brand consistency across every customer touchpoint
What They’re Looking For
- 5–7 years’ experience in UX/UI design
- 4+ years’ hands-on experience building and maintaining design systems
- Proven delivery of complex, scalable design systems
- Strong knowledge of UX best practices, including interaction patterns, information hierarchy, and usability principles
- Strong visual design sensibility, with excellent UI composition and layout skills
- Expert-level Figma skills
- Strong stakeholder and product collaboration experience
- Comfortable operating at lead level within multi-disciplinary teams
- Basic understanding of HTML and CSS is a plus — stronger skills are beneficial but not essential
