Senior Cloud Engineer

Senior Cloud Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Cloud Engineer!

At Bayer IT, we are looking for a hands‑on Senior Cloud Engineer for our Regulatory Compliance Platform to design, build, operate, and evolve our AWS‑hosted services that integrate with our Salesforce platform in a regulated (GxP) environment. This is a hands‑on, product‑facing role owning cloud architecture, secure integrations, operational reliability, and contributing to technical roadmap and architecture decisions. You’ll partner closely with several stakeholders to deliver validated, scalable, and cost‑effective solutions.

Your Tasks And Responsibilities

  • Architecture & design: Define and own cloud architecture (microservices, serverless, containers) for services that integrate with Salesforce; produce architecture diagrams, trade‑off analyses, and design docs.
  • Integration patterns: Implement and maintain integration layers (REST APIs, event‑driven patterns, Platform Events, Bulk APIs, streaming, middleware) ensuring secure, reliable, and idempotent data flows between AWS and Salesforce.
  • Infrastructure as Code: Author and maintain IaC (Terraform / AWS CloudFormation / CDK) for repeatable, auditable environments and deployments.
  • Platform engineering & CI/CD: Build and run SRE‑grade CI/CD pipelines (GitOps, CodePipeline, Jenkins, GitHub Actions) that cover infra, services, and release validation, including automated checklist steps needed for regulated releases.
  • Security & compliance: Embed security by design (IAM least privilege, VPC design, encryption KMS, secrets management, SSO/SAML/OAuth), implement logging and audit trails, and ensure solutions meet GxP/21 CFR Part 11 and CSV expectations.
  • Operational ownership: Operate production services (monitoring, alerting, incident response, runbooks, post‑mortems), optimize for availability, latency, and cost, and implement observability (CloudWatch, X‑Ray, Prometheus/Grafana).
  • Data & persistence: Design and maintain persistence layers (RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, caching), data migration strategies, backup/DR, and ensure data integrity across systems.
  • Testing & validation: Develop automated testing practices (unit, integration, contract tests), contribute to validation artifacts where required, and support validation/qualification activities.
  • Mentorship & leadership: Mentor engineers, run design/code reviews, and contribute to roadmap and technical prioritization with clear estimates and dependency mapping.
  • Cross‑functional collaboration: Work with Salesforce, Product, QA, and Business teams to translate business needs into validated technical solutions and to coordinate releases and integrations.

WHO YOU ARE:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years’ professional software/cloud engineering experience, with at least 3 years focused on AWS production systems.
  • Strong AWS experience (designing and operating services using Lambda, ECS/Fargate or EKS, API Gateway, EventBridge/SNS/SQS, RDS/Aurora, DynamoDB, VPC, IAM, KMS).
  • Demonstrated experience designing and building integrations with SaaS platforms (Salesforce or similar), including API design, authentication (OAuth), and reliable retry/queue patterns.
  • Proficient in at least one backend language (Node.js, Java, Python, Go, or C#) and in writing automated tests.
  • Solid experience with IaC (Terraform/CloudFormation/CDK) and Git‑based CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong operational experience: monitoring/observability, incident response, capacity planning, and cost optimization.
  • Working knowledge of computer software validation (CSV) and regulated‑environment requirements (GxP, 21 CFR Part 11) and how they affect development, testing, and deployment.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills; experience working with Product, QA, and Regulatory stakeholders.
  • Experience mentoring or leading other engineers and contributing to architectural decisions.

Preferred:

  • Experience with middleware or ESB platforms (MuleSoft, Boomi) or experience integrating via platform/event buses.
  • Familiarity with container orchestration (Kubernetes/EKS) at scale and related service mesh patterns.
  • Experience with observability tooling (X‑Ray, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus/Grafana, ELK/Opensearch).
  • Knowledge of secrets management (AWS Secrets Manager, HashiCorp Vault) and enterprise SSO patterns.
  • Certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, or relevant cloud certifications.
  • Prior experience producing validation artifacts (IQ/OQ/PQ, traceability matrices) or working directly within CSV programs.

You feel you do not meet all criteria we are looking for? That doesn’t mean you aren’t the right fit for the role. Apply with confidence, we value potential over perfection!
