Reporting to: Director of IT

Your role in the mission:

The Linux Systems Administrator supports the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and security of the organization’s Linux-based systems and environments. This role emphasizes hands-on technical work, real-time collaboration, and operational reliability in a fast-moving startup environment.

The individual will perform routine administration including patching, monitoring, troubleshooting, and log analysis, while also assisting with provisioning and configuration of virtual machines in cloud and on-prem environments. The role provides exposure to automation, backup and recovery processes, and security compliance practices, with an expectation of active participation in live technical work alongside senior staff.

  • Apply operating system patches, updates, and configuration changes on Linux servers and workstations.

  • Monitor system health, investigate alerts, and take appropriate corrective action to maintain uptime and performance.

  • Provide end-user support for account management, access issues, and basic troubleshooting.

  • Provision and maintain virtual machines in cloud platforms and local environments as directed.

  • Participate in live troubleshooting and pairing sessions with senior team members.

  • Document system procedures and contribute to the team knowledge base.

  • Escalate complex issues to senior administrators or engineers with clear context and evidence of steps already taken.

What you’ll need:

·       5+ years of hands-on professional Linux experience, including regular use of the command line.

·       Demonstrable familiarity with basic shell commands and scripting (e.g., Bash).

·       Basic working knowledge of SQL (e.g., SELECT, WHERE, GROUP BY, basic joins)

·       Exposure to at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP).

·       Comfort working in real time with screen sharing and collaborative problem solving.

·       Strong customer service orientation and troubleshooting mindset.

·       Ability to follow standard operating procedures while also asking clarifying questions when requirements are ambiguous.
