Senior Data Engineer

PODIX is a Bulgarian IT service company focused on offshore/nearshore software development services. We cover a diverse range of technologies in various industries – from creative and design to front-end and mobile development and back-end integration, testing and delivery.

We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join one of our partners in the education and digital learning space, where data is a core driver behind product innovation and user experience. The company is entering a new phase of international expansion, growing both its platforms and product portfolio across multiple markets and domains.

Your Responsibilities:

• Design, implement, and maintain robust data pipelines that ingest data from multiple sources — APIs, operational databases, log files, and event streams — and load it into cloud-based data lakes and data warehouses.
• Contribute to the architecture and continuous evolution of cloud-native data platforms, ensuring performance, scalability, and security as data volumes and use cases grow.
• Introduce testing, monitoring, and optimisation practices across pipelines and platforms. Investigate production issues, identify root causes, and implement long-term fixes that improve system stability.
• Work closely with product managers, engineers, analysts, and data scientists to translate business goals and product requirements into effective, scalable data engineering solutions.
• Take ownership of data quality and integrity by implementing practical validation mechanisms. Ensure privacy, security, and governance standards are consistently met, while contributing to improvements in data quality frameworks.
• Partner with Product, Design, Engineering, and Data teams in an Agile environment to build a more customer-focused, data-informed organisation.

Requirements:

• Strong experience in designing and operating cloud-based data platforms, including data lakes and data warehouses;
• Hands-on experience with AWS data services such as Kinesis, EventBridge, Glue, Lake Formation, and AppFlow;
• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL, with the ability to work confidently with additional programming languages when required;
• Experience working with both SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g. MySQL, DynamoDB);
• Experience building batch and streaming data pipelines using Spark and modern data processing frameworks;
• Solid understanding of data modelling, partitioning, and compaction strategies in data lakes;
• Practical experience with event-driven and real-time streaming architectures;
• Demonstrated ability to translate business and product requirements into scalable data engineering solutions;

Advantages / Considered as a Plus:

• Hands-on experience with Snowflake and Salesforce Customer Data Platforms;
• Deeper expertise across the AWS data ecosystem and cloud-native architecture patterns;
