The Senior Backend Software Engineer is a senior technical leader and hands-on individual contributor, responsible for designing scalable backend systems, breaking down complex problems into actionable tasks, and mentoring junior engineers. You will shape key architectural decisions, drive technical excellence, and support managerial initiatives, while remaining hands-on in building scalable, high-performance backend systems.
How You’ll Make An Impact
System Architecture & Development
- Architect and develop complex backend systems using PHP and Laravel
- Own and design Job, Queue, and Event-driven architectures
- Lead implementation and optimization of Laravel Horizon
- Generate new technical tasks, initiatives, and system improvements
- Define best practices for coding standards, queues, and async processing
- Design and manage Kafka or other message broker-based workflows
- Ensure high-performance data handling with MySQL and Redis
- Guide level 1 and level 2 engineers through mentorship and code reviews
- Lead technical problem-solving for production and scaling challenges
- Participate in sprint planning, estimation, and technical risk assessment
- Act as a technical point of contact for cross-team coordination
- Support managerial activities such as technical reporting and decision-making
- 6+ years of professional experience in backend development or equivalent senior-level capability, with a proven track record of delivering scalable, high-performance systems
- Expert-level proficiency in PHP and Laravel, with strong experience in JavaScript and building API-driven systems
- Deep understanding of MySQL performance, schema design, and transactions
- Advanced hands-on experience with Redis, Jobs, Queues, Horizon, and asynchronous processing
- Strong experience with Kafka or other message brokers for event-driven architectures
- Proven skills in system design, debugging, and optimization for high-performance backend systems
- Ability to mentor and technically lead level 1 and level 2 engineers
- Proven track record of successfully delivering complex, high-impact backend systems
- Demonstrated ability to improve stability and performance of queue and messaging systems
- Experience with microservice architecture is a plus
- Commitment to technical growth, clean coding, and bug-free implementation
