Job Overview
Plan A Technologies is looking for a seasoned Principal Game Designer. This is a Principal‑level design leadership role, focused on ownership, strategic influence, and accountability for the overall player experience and commercial success of the title.
We are looking for a proven design leader who excels at driving game experience, progression, and engagement in products that have already undergone significant development and are now ready for refinement, optimisation, and growth.
The game is a mobile free-to-play social bingo product with a real‑money component, built on Unity and currently in soft-launch. You will step into a well‑established, cross‑functional team of approximately 20 full‑time staff, including a Product Owner, Project Manager, Art Director, 2D Artists and Animators, QA Testers, Front‑End and Back‑End Engineers, Community Manager and DevOps.
You will be responsible for elevating the player experience, strengthening the economy and progression, designing new features, and acting as the ultimate design authority to help the game secure a strong worldwide launch and scale to last years in live operations competing with leading titles in the genre.
Please note: you must have at least 10+ years professional experience in game design to be considered for this role.
JOB RESPONSIBILITY
- Own and champion the end‑to‑end game vision and player experience, setting a clear design strategy that guides both short‑term iteration and long‑term evolution.
- Produce and maintain design documentation, flows, wireframes, models, prototypes and feature specifications suitable for a multi‑disciplinary development team.
- Ensure the game experience aligns with the expectations of the hybrid-casual social play audience, particularly within a bingo‑led framework.
- Design, analyse, and optimise game economies. Balancing free-to-play and real-money elements to ensure fairness, compliance and player trust.
- Refine and evolve the core gameplay loop and meta systems. Making data-driven design decisions to maximize player retention, engagement and lifetime value.
- Interface with Product, Engineering, Art, QA, Analytics, Community, and Commercial stakeholders to align creative vision, roadmap priorities, technical feasibility, and business goals.
- Work in-engine (Unity) and with administrative tools to ensure the correct set up and parametrization of game mechanics.
- Plan and execute regular internal playtests, working with QA to ship features in a polished and stable state.
- Collaborate in the definition and scheduling of special events, promotions, content drops and A/B experiments.
- 10+ years professional experience in game design, with clear progression into senior and leadership roles.
- Proven experience in shipping, leading or owning the design of successful free-to-play mobile live-service games built in Unity.
- Deep understanding of core-loops, game economies, progression systems, effective monetization, and player psychology.
- Hands-on, self-managed and proactive individual, comfortable working and collaborating with a large, Agile, cross-disciplinary, fully remote and global team.
- Demonstrated ability to step into an existing, complex product and rapidly add value through iteration rather than reinvention.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, in fluent and clear verbal and written English.
- Data‑informed mindset, comfortable working with KPIs, metrics, funnels, and player behaviour insights.
- Genuine passion for games and game development!
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Initiative and drive to do great things.
- Worked on or competed directly with titles such as Monopoly GO, Coin Master, or similar top‑grossing social casual mobile games.
- Experience with regulatory, compliance, and UX considerations related to real‑money gaming systems.
- Background in planning and operating events, seasonal content and in-app offers in a live game, with a strong track record of achieving targeted business goals.
- Familiarity with the rules, mechanics and concepts found in bingo‑based games.
