Are you a curious and inventive problem solver with a drive to turn ideas into reality? Coastal Source, a leader in high-performance outdoor audio and lighting solutions, is seeking a dynamic Engineer specializing in electrical, mechanical, or industrial design to join our talented R&D team at our vibrant Marathon, Florida location. In this role, you will report directly to the VP of Design & Engineering.
What You'll Do
- Design and develop cutting-edge audio and lighting components for outdoor environments, from concept to production
- Work on projects involving low-voltage LED lighting systems and high-fidelity audio amplifier circuits
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, contributing expertise across all phases of product development—including prototyping, testing, and refinement
- Utilize SolidWorks to draft, model, and visualize innovative designs; proficiency in Illustrator is a valuable plus
- Troubleshoot, iterate, and improve upon designs, always pushing for aesthetic, functional, and technical excellence
- Ensure designs meet environmental and electrical requirements unique to harsh outdoor environments (salt air, UV, heat, humidity, hurricane exposure, etc.)
- Provide support for prototyping, production, and field deployments, including occasional hands-on installation assistance.
About You
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design or related field of study
- 3+ solid years of hands-on experience with low-voltage LED lighting system design, power electronics, audio amplifier circuits, passive and active crossover network design and 120V AC electrical systems
- Experience in product development or electrical design
- Flexible, adaptable, and comfortable working on multiple product categories in a fast-paced, creative environment
- Genuine curiosity to understand how things work and a passion for problem-solving and creating “cool” products that enhance the Coastal Source brand
- Experience with test and measurement equipment (e.g. oscilloscopes, multimeters, audio analyzers, thermal cameras, etc.)
- Proven skills in SolidWorks for 3D modeling and design documentation (experience with Illustrator is a strong advantage)
- Knowledge of embedded control systems (e.g. PLC, DMX, 0-10V, DALI, Bluetooth, Zigbee) and audio signal routing (balanced/unbalanced)
- Understanding of photometric testing and lighting simulations
- Familiarity with marine-grade or outdoor-rated enclosures, IP ratings and conformal coatings a plus
