We are looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to join our team at our premises in Windhof, Luxembourg.
You will be responsible for the end-to-end INT – UQKD System Architecture, ensuring that the design and engineering best practices are embedded in the implementation as the system evolves, while also contributing to the design and analysis of future architectural elements.
About the client and location
Starion Luxembourg provides full lifecycle engineering solutions, including, design, integration and operation, for complex programmes. We supply operations and ground system engineering services for missions including Earth observation, quantum communications, scientific, navigation and space exploration, helping both New Space and established organisations set up their operations infrastructure or introduce new ground segment technologies.
In partnership with the European Space Agency (ESA), Starion Luxembourg is leading a consortium of key partners to develop and demonstrate a next-generation operational testbed targeting end-to-end quantum-safe communications. We work to provide operational solutions over fibre and satellite networks in existing national and international environments.
Tasks and activities
The scope of work will include:
- Overseeing and continuously maintaining the system architecture and its supporting documentation.
- Leading the design of complex telecom systems, with a strong focus on interface definition and security aspects.
- Maintaining a holistic view of the system and ensuring the successful integration of all subsystems.
- Coordinating with partners and ensuring the successful integration of space and ground segment subsystems.
- Leading local engineering project teams to ensure efficient collaboration and the delivery of a high-quality system.
- Providing guidance in system design, development and verification.
- Providing senior guidance to the technical teams contributing to similar projects.
Skills and experience
The following skills and experience are mandatory:
- A Master’s degree in Information Technology Systems, Engineering, Software Engineering or a related field, such as, Telecommunications or a relevant scientific discipline.
- At least 5 years of experience as a Systems Engineer, preferably in an international environment.
- Experience in Systems Engineering documentation, working with technical teams to produce and maintain specifications, design documents, validation materials and other lifecycle documentation.
- Demonstrated Systems Engineering experience within aerospace or defence environments, managing complex, interconnected systems under diverse communication protocols and restrictive standards.
- Team leadership experience, coordinating external teams and managing local workloads to ensure successful subsystem integration.
- Willing to undergo the appropriate security clearance process.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
The following skills are highly desirable:
- Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
- Experience in the space domain, preferably with ESA projects, including satellite communications, ground stations, mission operations centers, link budgets and mission planning.
- Experience in security assessment or secure operation of ITS systems, with knowledge of Secure Software Development Life Cycle practices.
- Experience in executing projects whilst following international standards.
- Possession of NATO and/or EU security clearances is considered an advantage.
