Summary Of Position Functions

The Engineer I - Industrial Controls participates in all phases of industrial control system projects including design, programming, commissioning, and post-project close out. This position is fully remote.

Essential Position Functions

  • Participates in project workflow and supports internal and external resources to ensure timely delivery of projects with high quality.
  • Performs technical calculations supporting design including electrical requirements, specification of instrumentation, adherence to client and safety standards, and motor controls.
  • Performs PLC, HMI, and SCADA programming in accordance with functional specifications and in conjunction with senior engineering team members.
  • Creates customer documentation such as user manual, functional programming documents, and network diagrams.
  • Architects programs that are simple to test, well documented, and versatile.
  • Oversees and validates work by contractors during build, installation, and start-up of systems.
  • Validates construction of control system enclosures per design (Factory Acceptance Testing).
  • Tests and commissions custom products and systems onsite and at customer facilities (Site Acceptance Testing).

Education And Qualifications

To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering; or three+ years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One (1) to three (3) years related job experience required.
  • Experience with any of the following is preferred: Allen Bradley Studio, RSLogix, Factory Talk View, Connected Components Workbench, Inductive Ignition, Aveva Wonderware, MS SQL and other database, and various scripting.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Knowledge of Veregy’s services and processes is required which can be obtained through intellect, technical inclination, and dedication to gain such knowledge.
  • Knowledge (Intermediate to advanced) of various operating systems, software products (e.g. MS Office, etc.), is required.
  • Fundamental knowledge of control and electrical system design and its application in automated industrial designs including power requirements, specification of VFD’s, instruments, various control system components, and networking components.
  • Knowledge of various industrial communication topologies and protocols such as Internet Protocol (IP) and Networking, Industrial Ethernet, Modbus, BACnet.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently manage time / workload.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, business, professional, and technical documents.
  • Ability to effectively respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers and staff.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to write presentations, articles, routine reports, proposals, and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management and staff.
  • Ability to speak and communicate effectively before customers and staff.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts and percentages.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and tactfully negotiate priority with end users.
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure and extra hours if needed.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Valid driver's license required.

Travel Requirement

  • Must be able to travel at least 40% - 50% of the time to project sites as required by the project schedule.
