About the Role
We are seeking a dynamic and hands-on VP of Engineering to join a growing team. This is a true player-coach role, spending approximately 60% of your time leading and managing a 10-person engineering team and 40% hands-on coding, primarily focused on Middleware development.
You will work closely with the Chief Architect to drive technical strategy while building, mentoring, and scaling a high-performing engineering organization across AI, Middleware, and UI.
What You’ll Do
Engineering Leadership & Team Management (60%)
- Lead, mentor, and manage a 10-person engineering team across AI, Middleware, and UI
- Own sprint planning, delivery execution, and technical prioritization
- Conduct code reviews and provide architectural and technical guidance
- Partner with executive leadership to align engineering goals with business objectives
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performance engineering culture
- Support hiring, onboarding, and professional development of engineers
- Act as the primary liaison between engineering and leadership

Hands-On Technical Contribution (40%)
- Design, write, review, and optimize production code in Java (required) and Python
- Contribute directly to Middleware architecture and development
- Collaborate with the Chief Architect on system design, scalability, and performance
- Establish and uphold engineering best practices and coding standards
- Jump in to solve complex technical challenges when needed
What We’re Looking For
- 8+ years of software development experience
- 3+ years in an engineering leadership role
- Strong background in Middleware development
- Hands-on expertise with Java (required) and Python
- Experience leading teams that include AI and UI components
- Proven ability to balance people leadership and technical execution
- Strong architectural mindset and experience partnering with senior technical leaders
- Comfortable leading remote teams in a fast-paced environment
- Preference for candidates in ET or CT time zones
