Senior UX/UI Product Designer โ Purchase Experience (Suitability IQ / Conversational AI)
Location: 100% Remote (US-Based)
Duration: 6 Months (Possible extension/hire)
About the Role
- Senior Product Designer to join our Experience and Design CPVS team. You will lead UX/UI design for an agent- and staff-facing AI-powered experience, including a conversational chatbot (AI Suitability Assist) and a pre-sales sandbox tool used to evaluate suitability scenarios prior to application submission.
- This role exists within a highly regulated environment where clarity, trust, and usability are critical.
- You will collaborate with design leadership, ADA specialists, product managers, content strategists, research, compliance, legal SMEs, and third-party vendors to create accessible, compliant, and conversion-focused experiences.
- Your work will directly impact customer journeys, agent engagement, and the evolution of digital ecosystem.
Project Context: Suitability IQ
- Suitability IQ is an AI-powered toolkit designed to help NYL agents and staff quickly access guidance on suitable sales practices and reduce friction in the new business process.
Phase 1 (Now โ Q1 2026 | POC / Pilot):
- Enhance AI Suitability Assist (chatbot) UX, conversation structure, and information architecture.
- Design and refine the Suitability Pre-Sales Sandbox (pre-screen tool).
- Improve feedback capture, admin reporting views, and usability based on pilot insights.
Phase 2 (Early 2026):
- Support design definition for the full-scale custom build informed by pilot learnings.
- Prepare UX artifacts, flows, and specifications for expanded development.
- Ongoing: Support testing, iteration, and evolution of Product Experience (PX) priorities.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead UX/UI design for the AI Suitability Assist, including chatbot UI patterns, conversation flows, and response structure.
- Own information architecture and conversation mapping for the chatbot (intents, topics, follow-ups, fallback states, escalation paths).
- Design end-to-end flows for the Suitability Pre-Sales Sandbox / pre-screen tool.
- Translate complex suitability and regulatory content into clear, plain-language, actionable user experiences.
- Design and iterate on feedback mechanisms (e.g., response ratings, diagnostic feedback, surveys) to support continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with product, engineering, compliance, and SMEs to ensure solutions are usable, feasible, and compliant.
- Apply component-driven design using NYLโs design system and contribute new patterns as needed.
- Test, iterate, and refine designs based on pilot feedback, usability findings, and performance data.
- Support UAT, pilot enhancements, and creation of design documentation for development handoff.
Must-Have Skills & Qualifications:
Design & Experience:
- 7+ years of UX/product design experience with a strong user-centric approach.
- 5โ8 years of digital web design experience, specifically translating UX strategy into component-based UI.
- 3โ4 years of advanced Figma expertise (components, variants, design systems at scale).
- 2โ3 years of design experience in CMS-driven environments (content models, templates, authoring constraints).
- 2+ years of experience contributing to design systems, including component creation and governance.
- Hands-on experience designing chatbot or conversational AI experiences, including conversation flows, intent/IA mapping, and response structure.
- Strong interaction design and problem-solving skills, especially for complex or regulated workflows.
- Proficiency in creating customer journey maps, user flows, IA models, conversation maps, and wireframes.
- Expertise in high-fidelity UI design with meticulous attention to accessibility and clarity.

Technical & Methodological:
- Mastery of Figma and FigJam; familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experience designing within platform constraints (CMS, low-code, or enterprise systems).
- Experience preparing detailed design specs and interaction notes for engineering handoff.
- Basic familiarity with HTML, CSS, and front-end development concepts.
- Working knowledge of Agile product development methodologies (Jira).
- Understanding of UX principles for responsive web and enterprise tools.
- Ability to collaborate with research and apply insights from qualitative and quantitative feedback.
